Technical Insurance question

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by bandoola, Jun 15, 2018.

  1. Just a in general question for people that have had to use the insurance- on either side of it.
    1. If your covered with a collector car insurance like Grundy and had to use it, did your premium go up reasonable or exponentially? Also did it hit your regular insurance premiums?
Or 2. if you have your car with your regular insurance, and have this car as a 3rd-4th vehicle, and had to use the insurance, did it hit your over premiums?

yeah and I know some of you have your toy cars covered with liability only on your regular insurance (please dont chime in if that is the case.)

Legit question as I have some on my AAA, some on on collector insurance and some of others, but try to keep my nose clean on driving.

I have Grundy for both my '32 roadster and '46 wagon. Several years ago I was detailing my '46 wagon in my driveway. I heard "help me, he is going to kill me" and when I looked up, I saw a man chasing a 12 year old boy and he had a huge Bowie knife in his hand. The boy saw me and ran into my garage to hide and when the man walked up my driveway, I told him to stop and told him I was calling the police. With that he said "this is for the police" and broke the windshield, slashed the front wide white and broke off the cowl mirror. In less than two minutes I had three police cars at my house and the police captured the nut. Anyway, the Grundy people could not have been greater. They had an adjuster come to my house the next day and I had a check for the repairs in less than two weeks.

They paid because they are the insurer; I pay them for insurance, they pay for my covered costs; it is up to the them to collect from the other party.

No increase in premiums, even after a 2nd issue where a tree fell on my wife's DD and damaged it. I did have to pay the deductible that time, but the body shop waived it so no cost to me.

All states have an insurance regulatory agency that sets the rules for their state , what is available in one state may or may not be available in others

That is because a tree falling on your vehicle is a comprehensive claim, where claims don't affect your premiums.
