So the local auto parts stores have almost NO parts I need for a 1956 car. But on the other hand they have ALL the parts needed for a 58, of the same engine- 292 4bbl... Could I order internal engine parts for a 56 that are mainly listed under 58? I ordered the timing chain and gears already, but I plan on gettin some more cool stuff here pretty soon. Any guidance on possible differences between model years would be appreciated. Thanks guys.- Anthony

    Try checking out www.rockauto.com

That site is good about listing part numbers and the different years those parts will interchange with.

I've used that site alot - if you have any questions after looking at it, just ask....

  3. as far as internals go i think they are the same.. hell some of the parts from a 54 Y block will bolt right up to a 64 Y block.. i know they changed the dizzy in 57 though.. the internals are pretty much the same though.. the rods i just pulled out of a 55-57 272 have the same casting numbers as the ones in my 60's truck 292..

Rock on man. I ordered a new cap and rotor from the '1958' dropdown list, because I was too amateur to do research myself I guess... Turns out maybe the only parts that DONT fit, I have already ordered huh? We all learn our lessons. Shoulda used rockauto!

So what kinda set up are you using on the 292? Im curious as to what others are doing. Im runninga stock setep minus a modern holley and the lack of the oil bath Cleaner.

Yep as far as engine parts are concerened, they were identical from 55 to 64. The baby Y in 54 has a different oil pump and intake bores. Watch out though, some Y car parts are differnt than truck.

    Malcom:

Thanks for the tip. I tried them for some ball joints for my old '62 Thunderbird - supposedly hard to find. Theyi had them, and reasonably priced as well.

    Cheers
