Well, turns out Budget36 was right about my starter problem, my ring gear's chewed up & missing some teeth, so the starter wasn't spinni g the engine...... Looking up new ring gears, and there's info & prices all over the place.... I've heard the part is the same for all flathead sixes between 34 and 59, then, there's people saying no, the 46-49 Dodge is unique.... Do any of the experts out there know the interchangability for sure? It's a stock 48 Dodge 230 flathead six with Fluid Drive.... I've seen prices from NOS for 150, all the to 18 bucks on Rock Auto, if they still work on a 58-59..... Thanks in advance for any help!
Here is what the Hollander interchange manual says. it is their interchange number 550. Looks like they all fit
he's looking for the ring gear, not the starter. hollanders says 41-55 dodge car fluid drive is one part number, but not the later ones.
