Could we return to posting only images that were published in magazines? There are other threads where the unpublished photos can be posted.

Here's a custom named "Chrysler Flamingo." The only information about it is that it took a year to build, cost $8500, has 28 coats of bittersweet lacquer and has an English saddle leather interior.

Chances are this fellow is not the "world's oldest hot-rodder" but then again it's 1957 so maybe it's true!

This looks like it started as a 1964 Ford Galaxie. Full customs were winding down but the Alexander Brothers still knew how to make 'em clean and beautiful.

This is a photo that I cut out and pasted into a sixth-grade school assignment of about a dozen pages. I think the purpose was to put together a bunch of photos cut out from magazines on some topic that was divided into sub-groups. Mine was entitled Custom and Competition Cars with sections on dragsters, Winternationals, customs, rods and interiors. Apparently I forgot to include sentences in outline form but I still got a B+ for "fine information."

Norm Thatcher, in his stock '63 Plymouth, set two world records at Bonneville: B Gas Production at 172.610 mph and A Gas Production at 177.859 mph. He also went 195.95 mph with a 470 c.i. supercharged engine that apparently is in the car below (no class win was mentioned).

Great aticles !!! Portland ME is only 40 minutes North of here. Wonder if Nelson's old 34 coupe has survived . The age of 69 is not considered old by the guys in our car club today.

Here's something to make a regular car into a "racer" -- if only in the driver's mind.

Model magazines often had articles on real cars as aids to making realistic scale cars.

Slot cars were big in the '60s. The popularity started with Aurora's Model Motoring with a claimed scale of HO (1/87) that was compatible with HO model trains. The original idea was that kids would "drive" their little station wagons and sedans as if they were on streets and highways. That didn't last long. The cars and packaging quickly became racers and hot rods as shown on this example with exciting art. This image shows part of a two-page review of the set.

Sorry, guys, for the big pic but this one deserves it. It's the first page of an article entitled "GREAT CARS & How To BUILD The MODEL" [their capitalization].

This car went on to become Big Al I. For more info, go here:
