Now i am really confused after more research. it is tru recycling that is for sale for just under a million and not the junkyard next door that is offering the cars this weekend. really confused now? there is about 5 business that are using the same address and really confusing me.

whatever if you want a cheap project car here is your chance this saturday. i have enough and i have other things to do besides trying to figure what is going on at a property out of my area so i need to refocus my time to stuff in my own area. good luck to whoever goes there. hope you get something

Thanks for your take on things, fuzz. I'd have to load up and start driving right now to get up there Saturday. 1900+ miles and 28 hours straight...

the 1950 Pontiac might be legit. usually when it is a scam there are tons of pictures saying it is in 100 different cities or listed far away from the original source but when i searched for that pontiac i came up with the same picture that read sandy springs georgia and that is only 14 miles from marietta and marietta is probably the closest cl. town they have on the list so i am leaning towards it being legit. best way to tell is see if you can see it in person. scammers usually don't have a map showing where the car is, it is usually in a warehouse someplace and will be shipped to you.

Description says automatic, but I see three pedals. Also says coupe. Hard to tell from pics. but looks more like a 2 door sedan. When I first clicked on "reply" is showed a phone number, now asks for email.

We have some HAMBers in the Marietta area. Maybe one will go check it out in person.

Someone who already runs a junkyard spends all day going out into the yard, picking up a car, putting it in the shop, torching out whatever assembly the buyer wants (assuming it's something big you wouldn't just pull in the yard) and then loading that assembly for a few hundred bucks.

Selling the whole car for the same price is less work but you're forgoing the income of selling future parts off that vehicle or the scrap.

Whether $700 is a good price is irrelevant. You need to get way below market value so that people say to themselves "I don't really need it but there's a lot I could use there and I'll come out ahead if I buy the whole thing" in order to actually move the cars.

Think of it as a "buy a few parts get a free parts car" deal.

They're not getting much more because they're selling stripped and crushed cars which have a fairly high amount of plastics content and other weight to them vs the amount of (mostly) steel. The real money is in the part sales and bulk core sales.

I've been close enough to two different junkyard closings, albeit a decade ago at this point, to know that the per ton price they sold their inventory (to another local yard in both cases) at was right about what the non-automotive scrap yard would pay for mixed metal (i.e. the guy who shows up with a trailer full of scrap he picked up off the curb).

That's really it. The cars look to have been picked. So I see parts cars, not project cars. If you buy one as a project, by the time you've tracked down the missing pieces you'd have more into it than if you'd initially paid two/three times as much for a complete one.

The prices seem to reflect scrap value + overhead of dealing with onesy twosy general public BS.

I doubt there is anything super super rare sprinkled amongst the stock. Yard owners aren't stupid. Desirable, maybe. Super super valuable, no.

Grinning to myself here, sometimes, parts that are still encased in cosmoline, simply find a new home, because they are too cool to throw away!
    Everyone's results may vary!

i agree, they have been selling off project cars in the 2-3 thousand dollar range for a few years already so it is pretty picked over but you never know someone might find something that they cannot live without.

  25. That Corvair van is an odd duck, isn't it? Didn't realize that Chevy ever built them with dual cargo doors on both sides. Some of the more conventional vans of that era were also available with cargo doors on both sides but were seldom seen. When new, my understanding was that they tended to be ordered as florist and bakery delivery vehicles.

Yep, I have an 8 door Dodge. I haven't seen production figures for any of the makes, but this is a rare option. I've mentioned previously that for a while, I tried to find any Dodges out on the 'net and was able to find about 30. This is in no way an indication of actual numbers, because there are always ones like this that don't show up until they go up for sale.
The 8 door option was, as far as I can tell, most often used for people movers rather than cargo haulers, although both kinds were built. BTW, it's for sale here. IMG_2036.jpg

I am glad that this car is too far away to sneak down and pick up. That car just calls me and makes my mind work overtime. I can see the car with a 3 inch chop and a traditional built flat head and a whole lot of old school cool going on. It already has the big/small tire thing happening. And it looks good on it.
