California is the easiest state to get a title for on a car, trailer or boat as long as it's not in the computer system. The only one that's a little more difficult or motorcycles which I have very little experience dealing with.
All you need is a statement of facts paper filled out, a bill of sell and the 8 million dollars for registration fees plus a physical VIN verification by somebody that is authorized to do that (there are DMV broker services that offer this or you can put in a request to do it at a CHP office, I highly recommend spending the money to have the DMV broker person do it).
The big takeaway with California is when it comes to the DMV It's only don't ask don't tell basis meaning if they don't ask you you don't tell them.
When you are filling out a statement of facts you basically say
"I (your name as seen on your driver's license) bought this vehicle (make, model, year and vin number) from the last registered owner for the sum of (x amount) of dollars, It has not been registered for the road in many many years (a semi precise date three or four decades ago would be better) and the title was lost by the registered owner many years ago.
Original owner's name and signature along with driver's license number
New owners name signature along with Drivers license number.

What I have learned from dealing with California DMV for over 30 years now, All they want is their money. Lately I have been spending $200 to use a DMV service person It's so much easier to let them deal with the paperwork and the vin verification.

Could be a nice car, but I'd be leery without seeing a lot more pictures and some explanations. The ad says it has all the parts, but the engine pics show it missing the head and a lot of other parts. And with no interior pics I see red flags waving.

 

Ran when parked has little meaning. These ran when parked low miles

 

I've had a lot of "ran when parked" stuff that was pure junk, but still ran. Being broken was often the reason it was parked in the first place, but by golly, it still ran when it was parked.

I had a motor with a broken crankshaft, it still idled with the broken crank, not very well, but it still ran when I parked the car to pull the motor.

When ever I see that something "ran when parked" in a car ad, I envision that motor with the broken crankshaft. Those words don't mean much to me.

 

It's not inexpensive, but it sure is interesting. I don't recall seeing anything like this.

I messaged the owner, and he was nice enough to send pictures and an explanation of how it works. Pretty ingenious.



This is how the triangle linkage attaches to the shift towers on the transmission.

Here are both driveshafts hooked to the rear axles. Left shaft goes to the rear axle, right goes to the front.

VERY cool!-thanks -still can't completely understand the shift linkage,but almost!

 

Look at the picture of the front of the triangle linkage. That long rusty shaft slides forward and back and attached to the bottom of the shift tower in the cab of the truck. It also rotates to both sides in neutral which allows the driver to shift into gear. The picture under this is of basically the same thing in a 1950 Allard K2. The shift tower on the transmission got sawed off and then a remote shifter was located so the driver could reach it. There was a long rod connected to the bottom of the shifter and the cut off transmission tower. Look at the bottom of the shifter and you'll see a fitting with a pin which allows it to move side to side. The long rod passed through two fittings that held it in place and allowed the rod to move forward and back and move the remote shifter and transmission tower at the same time and same direction. It took me quite a while to work it out, but it's a really simple mechanism.
