I never understood why people chock their car's wheels. Is the transmission inoperative?
E-brake doesn't work ? Engine has no compression? Looks like a pretty level floor.
And… why 4x4 s, when 2x4 or plain bricks would suffice?

    OK, done with the rant.

Not a car, but a real deal for a guy wanting a different period correct engine. I've kicked myself a couple of times for letting my good running 289 go.

One thing that reading this has pointed out to me is there is a vast difference of opinion of what is inexpensive.

No shit partsdawg. When this thread started, the cars were low priced. Now, it's just another sale sight.

  15. I don't know you, but to me that ~car is the epitome of your common refrain.

And, it's already sold. When will you be driving it?

It’s even smaller than that. Although it was sized the same as its contemporary microcars, it was built as an amusement park ride.

  21. I was wondering what "Ihle" was.

    Quote, AI:
"Ihle" or "Gebr. Ihle" refers to a German company that specialized in building amusement park rides, particularly bumper cars and microcars. They were known for their work in the 1930s and 1950s, creating both electric and gas-powered vehicles for fairgrounds. The company also designed and built bodies for vehicles like the BMW Dixi.

    Key Points:

Amusement Park Rides: Gebr. Ihle was a major supplier of amusement park rides, including bumper cars.

Microcars: They also built miniature cars designed for amusement park rides, sometimes called "Schottenring" cars.

BMW Dixi Modifications: The company specialized in creating custom bodies for the BMW Dixi, particularly sports car-style bodies.

1930s-1950s Era: Their primary activity was in the period from the 1930s to the 1950s.
    ----

Here's a Wiki page on BMW Dixi: Dixi is a brand name of cars made by originally by Automobilwerk Eisenach, later by BMW. The first Dixi car was produced in 1904.[1]: 125  In the difficult economic climate of the 1920s the company found it hard to sell its 6/24 and 9/40 models. So the manufacturer decided to enter the small car market, and in 1927 signed a licensing agreement with the Austin Motor Company to build a variant of the Austin 7. A production level of 2000 cars a year was agreed upon, and Dixi paid Austin a royalty on each vehicle produced.

The first 100 cars were supplied by Austin as kits, but by December 1927 the first of the official Dixi-manufactured vehicles, the DA-1 3/15PS were coming off the production line. The DA designation stood for Deutsche Ausführung, meaning German Version; 3/15 indicated the taxation and actual horsepower ratings. Apart from being left-hand drive and using metric fasteners, the car was nearly identical to the Austin. Body styles available were coupé, roadster, tourer, and sedan with a few chassis going to external coachbuilders. Most cars left the factory as tourers.

Looking to move into automobile manufacturing, BMW bought the Automobilwerk Eisenach in 1928 and, with it, the rights to build the Dixi car. At first the cars were badged as BMW Dixi but the Dixi name was dropped in 1929 when the DA-1 was replaced by a slightly updated version, the BMW 3/15 DA-2.

    * Dixi DA 1 4 cyl, 15 hp (11 kW), 1927–1929

And here's a BMW Dixi. Cool, and nice color red:
