Not a car, but still super interesting. That is a deal if real.

Terrible pictures. Got a shot of both rear door panels facing the back of the front seat but no pics of the rear of the car that aren't cropped off.

@Stan Back I think it has to do with updating the quarters for the whole line, but still using the previous stampings for the wagon bits? Like @sixball mentioned. I've read a book on the Stude/Packard merger but don't have the YMM stuff memorized. It was a tough time for them both.
Even the 55 had a bit of a shelf for the bumper filler.

Ford killed Packard when they bought the Briggs body co. Packard never rebuilt their own body shop after the war, just bought from Briggs. When ford shut them off they bought Studebaker mainly for the West Bend body plant. By that time, both ships were sinking anyway.

Post-war allotments, all manufacturers relying on pre-war designs 46-48 but having to come out with new designs to compete by 49-50, rolling in advancements learned during the war.
This meant that a lot of companies could sell everything they had the manpower and materials to produce, but then it was extremely competitive during economic times that were challenging.

A lot of thinning and consolidation happened.

The spare is under the trapdoor in the back. I think they just had extra length in '57. Studebaker had some great designs and some not so great and they held on to some components for a long time. Other than some small changes front suspension was the same from about '52 through the Avanti.
