I live under a rock, so it's no surprise that I hadn't heard of this... But Steve Moal just finished an interesting car for a TV personality. You can kind of see it here:

Video is a bore, but car looks to be pretty creative...

  2. Almost went to this presentation ! An acquaintance of mine knows Moal thru the vintage car restoration world. Moal invited him and he in turn invited me and my buddies. We were on our way when half way across the Richmond Bridge traffic stops and we sat there for an hour and a half. When we finally got there the shindig was pretty much over but Steve was pleased to see our pal and proceeded to give us a personal tour of the car. Very nice, super talented, yet unassuming guy. The car is pretty cool, some really interesting touches, you can see the vintage Euro sports car influence yet it is basically an all American hot rod. Beautifully built as well.

The videos not too bad if you roll forward to about the 15 minute part..

It's hard not to congratulate Steve Moal on completion of faithful recreation of
    a labor of love.

I would hope that they do well at the Roadster Show but honestly,
there will probably be somebody there with something way overdone
and all loaded with the latest name brand billet that garners enough
commercial value to out way the vote.

But that won't stop me from wishing Steve et el the Best of luck.

On another note, at the 15:30 mark where Steve introduces the Phil Pain car,
The first thing I saw was a 39 Ford Truck grille irregardless of body.
It makes a guy think twice about what is or isn't a 'track' nose...

Moal has a heavy style, he'll overwhelm you with detail stuff. You have to have all of it or else it wouldn't work. Like you couldn't buy a pair of seats from him and use them, they'll take over a normal build. They'll work in his builds. Even the normal run of the mill stuff like the master cylinder mountings, he uses three of them on his cars and with all the bracketry and riveting etc they are standalone works of art that fit in with the rest of the stuff.

neat car, but the first thing my eye was drawn to was the off the shelf looking front lower shock mounts

  7. Thanks for the vid...was off my radar as well. Steve's humility is pretty refreshing...would be a cool guy to have a beer and cigar with in the shop.

Only wish they'd have stuck to the initial rendering....

I saw this car at the GG WC Nats a few months back. Its everything you would expect. If I ever hit the lotto, I would have a Moal coach, no doubt.

Also, if you are ever in the East Bay Area, the Blackhawk Museum is worthwhile...just ignore the housewives in Range Rovers and middle-aged white men in Ferraris....

I didn't watch the whole video but what I did see I thought was pretty strange. about as interesting as watching paint dry.

I am watching Wayne's show "Chasing Classic Cars" right now. It feature this car in its inception. Neat.

  17. It's on velocity now.

  18. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode of CHASING Classic CARS entitled "Whip It Good".

I may be a bit biased as the Moal's are long-time family friends ... but I really dig Wayne Carini's MOAL "SPEEDWAY" ROADSTER !!!

Here's a few of my snapshots of the car taken Friday, August 21st 2015 at the 29th Annual GOODGUY'S West Coast Nationals in Pleasanton, CA:

Watched Chasing Classic cars, nice coverage of the car. Google Maserati A6GCS, the early cycle fender ones, and you'll see some styling features they had to use. Bob

Lots of neat details, but what do you think about that driving light "third eye" in the grill? I don't know...

I love the car. If it were mine and I had my 'druthers, I'druther the instrument panel was engine turned like the engine compartment is. The crackle paint doesn't do it for me.

    My champ car will be.

Kind of interesting that Wayne Carini can have (and has had) any car he wants, but for his ultimate personal expression chose this build.

Anyone else notice the T-5 stick shifter during the build?

  30. Bob -

Funny you should mention the Maserati cycle fenders ...

Per Carini's request, Moal might be fabricating some (removable) cycle fenders for the roadster.

Steve is considering adding a "detail piece" (similar to the "fin" piece used on the trunk lid) to the top of each of these cycle fenders.
