These are dead easy to fabricate from some off cuts of 1" square tubing and some sheet metal, I have several I made nearly thirty years ago, at the time I had never seen them for sale or advertised here, but, a late friend of mine had one clamp he had inherited from his father, who had started work at a wartime aircraft factory as an apprentice. Whether or not this was the origin of the clamp I don't know.
They are easy to make, I used broken canteen table legs for the body, sheet metal s****s, and either square bar from door handles or round bar off cuts for the locking pin some set screws and wing nuts.( the square hole was originally drilled and filled square very laborious, so some were fitted with round locking bars, until we hit on the idea of cutting a square hole with a tiny cold chisel which was very effective and quick)
We made loads in an evening, some have been lost in action or borrowed and never returned.Again tools in Britain appear to be much more expensive than the US. ( I've compared the $ prices for Snap on on the website to what the local supplier charges from the UK list, HF prices in the US mags are almost gifts, although I've never purchased or used any HF tools so I can't comment on quality.)
