Ok while Im finishing the fab work on the coupe I have gotton my wife involved in the build. Im getting her started on the interior. What is the best backing for door panels and kick panels and such. Ive looked at several different things and am just wondering what you have used successfully. And on a simialar note, would marine grade vinyl be good enuff for a top insert or would it be prone to stretching and tearing. Should I stay with the canvas backed factory style top? Thanks Greezy.
I'm working on the door panels for my car now, and I just got two sheets of 4x8 1/8th inch hardboard from Home Depot for like $12 or something. It's even better quality than the original stuff.
Machinos thats what i was thinking of using too, i was also looking at the white vinyl stuff like you would put in the shower, its pretty flexable and would work good for the headliner I think.
try ..........WWW.glfi.com/..............THEY HAVE THE Vinyl YOU NEED-GO to a local upholstery shop and buy 3-4 waterproof black door panel boards15 bucks ea.
1/8" door skin plywood works well for door panels and such. About 10 bucks for a 4 X 8 sheet out here. Just give it a light coat of varnish or sealer before covering and it should last forever. If you've got any curved surfaces to cover, look for 1/8" "bending" plywood. The plys are laid out with the grain all running in the same direction so you can roll it in a circle if need be.
I like to use the white (dry erase) type board (masonite) from home depot...I cover the brown side and have the white side face the door...The white side is kinda water resistant, and last a long time...I have never had any trouble with one of these panels coming apart... JP
