What an adventure, thanks for sharing! I did this a few years ago, built a cotton tent canvas cover, limited myself to vintage gear (including 6v conversion on the old cathedral radio) and set out for a multi-state trip for a car show. The "A" is a perfect platform forcing a guy to slow down and take it all in, smiling when double clutching that banger clicks right through a hill. One of my best trips, I hope more people will do the same.

Nice trip, did a bit of camping with the 31 back in the late 80’s. My favorite trip was to the 1989 Street Rod Nats in St Paul, my dad and I drove out from Detroit via Chicago on way out but cut cross country thru the UP on the way back. Camped the whole trip. Got to drive the Mackinaw bridge. 18D84E31-86DB-461A-8968-B43ED14A0BAD.jpeg B1039E51-C583-47CB-8B4E-A34DE688023B.jpeg

Great story and trip, Joey! As a kid, I remember camping a Samuel P. many times. Great place. We'd go down and play in the creek and night time was always good for scary stories around the fire.

Ironic timing as “into the woods” is on stage at the local high school this weekend. Another fantastic example of Joey putting the “vibe” of a trip perfectly into words. A real talent.

there’s a thread called “threw an old cars windshield” or similar here that kinda touches on this same idea.

trips in an old car are just different and one like your camping trip are truly special. I can remember two or three off hand and the romantic nostalgia I hear in your prose is exactly the same that keeps so many of the silly details from those trips in my mind.

If you aren’t taking trips in your cars you really are missing out.

Boy, my heart sank when the smoke started pouring from under the car, then, just like that, it's all good, you are living right for sure!
Now, me being a 32 Ford sort of guy, I'm looking forward to your next camping trip coverage in the new car, even if it does only have a deuce chassis.

Absolute video and photographic evidence, that time travel is possible, to go forward in time and back in time, and return to a variety of times, all good, on this planet !
And its even better if you have a cool sibling to share it with !
Bravo to the " Pros from Dover ", to steal a line from the classic movie " MASH "

  20. Excellent! Conversely if you somehow were able to fit into my pick up and took that instead you would not have seen anything except the road ahead, you have the right car for the right trip.

  21. Joey, the camping trip, the photos, and the video will help to rejuvenate your memories many years from now. It was a good thing that you did with your brother. You are living the life.

Great road trip Joey. Thanks for sharing. Its a good incentive for us all to slow down and savior the moment and forget the destination. Lifetime memories there.

Great time, great story. One of my fond memories is a 2000 mile shakedown trip in my 34 with my brother. That was back in the 80's.
