I have been lurking here for a few weeks and I guess its time for an intro. On another board I frequent the purchase of a virtual round of drinks is expected so consider that done here as well. I am 57 and live in Tallah***ee, FL but I grew up in Miami. I spent a lot of time at the Masters Field drag races there in high school when Don Garlits ran there along with the Crane Cams dragster. Although I have always loved hot rods, My first car was a 57 Ford, 2dr, 6cyl, auto. I ended up going thru a lot of English sports cars. Probably in retrospect because my father thought I couldnt go as fast in one and that was what he let me buy with the little money I had to spend. From my first car on it was my money I had to earn to buy the cars and pay the insurance, which in Miami was usually more than the cars. About 4 years ago I told a friend I was looking for a truck. He smiled and said Do you want to buy one or build one. He had a 1967 Chevy ½ ton long step on his property that was parked 8 years earlier with a rod knocking, 6 cyl, 3 on tree. The truck now has a 350 4bolt that I pulled from another truck and rebuilt with the usual speed stuff (Edelbrock, Crane cam, header) but I did score a pair of 2.02 camel hump heads with accessory holes) and a Saginaw 4sp from a Camero with a Hurst Compe***ion Plus shifter,. The interior is all redone, put new wood in the bed (pressure treat painted black, not oak, its a truck not furniture) and a set of Moon discs and a primer grey paint job. It runs great and I drive it a lot. Even though projects like that are never done, I have been jonesing to build a street rod and sniffing around the internet I found the HAMB. I like the at***ude of this place. I will probably go back into lurk mode and continue to read and learn. If anyone here is around Tallah***ee, let me know. I would love to help someone building a rod so I could learn more. Thanks, Pete
