Hello everyone. Well, growing up in a garage where my dad did body work and motor work its only natural i am on this site. first of all my dad is my idol, he built his first hot rod at 14 with his dad, a 34 ford 3 window. This car was in multiple magazines and won a bunch of trophys. He made a good living working in his garage next to our house in M***achusetts. working mostly on hondas and was able to put my brother and i through college. He has since moved to maine and built a state of the art 3 bay garage complete with heated floors a lift and paint room. At 64 he has returned to what he loves...hot rods! still owning his 34 and a 40 ford rat truck. He still has plenty of work doing work on customers rods as well. Heres where i come in. I am looking to buy a 62 falcon. but, with my father being such a perfectionist it makes it very difficult. (there will always be something wrong with it)lol. So i figured i would ask someone else. so heres my questions. I found a 62 falcon 2door with a 200 swap also has a fordomatic in it connected to the original 3 on the tree! 1)does connecting a two speed to a 3 speed column pose any problems? 2)If i decide to switch, C4 seems the way to go for a DD! Which make, model, year c4 bolts up easiest? (62,200ci,orig. 3speed) would like to keep it on the column if possible (rod or cable?) 3) or rebuild the fordomatic 2 speed? seller says its slipping a bit!! TRYING to keep the swap simple as possible. Not looking to change rear ends or motors or anything. just looking to drive it daily. I guess i will start there. thanks thanks thanks MERRY CHRISTMAS
Welcome aboard pax123! Any cool pics you can post of your dad's rides in his cool garage? I'm with you there, Falcons are not only cool but easy to work on. '62 and '63 are definitely my favorites, but I am partial to the '63. That's when they introduced the fastback/T-bird roofline, the V8, Sprint and the convertible. I am running an original 260 V8 but have heard the 200 with a C4 is perfect for a daily driver. I have a C4 in my garage that waiting to go in my car. I am not sure about the linkage to the column for a 6 cyl but I know on mine I need to get the linkage from a '64 or '65 car that had a V8 column shift and C4, or it can be easily modified. I know there are plenty of people running that combo so it must be fairly simple. I think I read once that the transmission tunnel is also a little bigger on a '63 so swaps would be easier. A great place to find a decent '62 (or any Falcon) besides here would be TFFN. Or, join the FCA (Falcon Club of America) and get their monthly newsletter. There are always plenty for sale in there. GOOD LUCK! Here's a couple pics of mine;
Hi and Welcome aboard! Ford changed the engine to ****** bolt pattern back about 65 or 66.. Early engine and bell housing has 5 bolts and later has 6. Realistically your best bet is to find a 289/302 with it's ****** attached and slide them both in.... Btw, you will have better luck posting your questions in the main forum moe .
Welcome from Ky. Don't know too much about Ford Falcons but in your intro you mentioned your Dad was your idol. What a lucky man! and you as well for having a Dad with motor oil in his veins.. Best of luck with your project.
Welcome from Southern Indiana! My 63 sprint nearing completion. I did about everything wrong you could possibly do. Falcons can get fairly expensive so I would try to find one as complete as possible. I didn't realize this when I bought mine. The only thing I had going for me was a great body to start. There is not much difference between a 62 and a 63. If you are trying to keep it stock make sure you do some research into how much parts you may need cost. Grills, rear bumpers, pot metal trim, header bows, trim (spears, trunk emblem, etc) is all expensive.
