Greetings. The pressure has finally mounted, and I have had my arm twisted long enough. It's time to get this thing over and intro. Here are the basic stats, and then I'll get to the car. Name: Blane Family: Amazing wife, and 2 gorgeous kids City: San Antonio, TX School: UTSA - Mechanical Engineering Work: Program Manager with a major medical device manufacturer HAMB Friends/ Acquaintances (although they may deny it): Chris (Crease); Mark (Sandman); Dan (Barnett); Patrick (AntiChrysler); Willie (Slick Willie); Christian History: Dad developed my love of cars early; Crease introduced me to hotrods while in college. Experience: My first car modification - 2 inches of modification to the lower end of the deck lid Crease's 1940 Dodge (impressive, I know). However, I was really able to cut my teeth last year while helping Crease build his amazing 33 coupe. Lots of hours, blood, sweat, and tears on the floor of his garage culminating in finishing at 3:30 am before driving to Austin for last year's Roundup in Austin at 9:00am. Having a buddy let you learn what you are doing on a ride like his shows a level of trust, faith, and patience you don't find anywhere. Ok, enough of that. On to MY project - 31 Ford 5 window (chopped and channeled). I picked it up (just the body and frame) in Blanco, TX from 2 redneck hillbillys that had Crease and I staring a "Deliverance" scene right in the face at midnight in the middle of freakin' nowhere (he tells the story better than I). Starting last Saturday I had exactly 27 days to drive this thing to Austin for the Roundup, and no 2 parts were touching each other! From that day until the day of the roundup I'll try to post the late night progress to chronicle the build and let everyone gamble on whether I'll make it or not. With the days pics, I'll try to list whatever was completed during that day. Crease has been, and will be aiding along the way when he gets his hall pass from both the wife and work. Here goes... February 28th: 27 days to the Roundup Progress: Frame primed and front horns cleaned up. February 29th: 26 days to the Roundup Progress: Frame partially finished in satin black. Ran out of paint at midnight. March 1: 25 days to the Roundup Progress: Frame paint complete. Installed Ford 8 inch rear with model A spring. Installed '49 F-1 pedals, late 30s master cylinder, '53 F-1 modified steering box with shortened column and 1936 shaft welded for use of rebuilt banjo steering wheel. March 2: 24 days to the Roundup Progress: Picked up front end parts from chrome shop during the day and installed them last night (purchased axle, perches, reverse eye main leaf, lower shock mounts, modified '49 F-1 shock mounts w model A headlight mounts, tie rod, modified early 40s drag link, steering hoop. I had the radius rods re-chromed earlier, but now installed. More progress tomorrow... So, its good to finally toss up the proverbial softball intro for everyone to knock out of the park. So start swinging. As far as Austin on the 26th goes, I'll do my best. Will I make it...? -Blane-
Ok, so the pics cant be attached all at once. I'm learnin here. Ill try to reply to myself and give the pics that support the progress.
Looks like I get first swing, or not. Ah forget it, never was any good at sports, that's why i became a gearhead. Uh, did I mention that I hate chrome? Thrashing is cool isn't it? Welcome and luck to you friend The PknBner
welcome to the hamb. will you sleep next month? i think you'll make it. but what do i know? my car is still on its dolly in the barn and all i've done is polish my buick drums with a wire brush...
Holy Crap! I am so freaking jealous on the progress you are making! You are definately welcome amongst HAMBers! I can't wait to see that thing down at the Round Up! Welcome again!!! Elrod
Best intro in a long while. Welcome to the HAMB from the midwest or as I like to call it the No Coast.
A friend told me that he met this guy once in Paso about 5 years ago who had a pretty interesting story. He had a early 50's chevy that was very, very nice. The guy looked like a damn hobo. He started talking with him and he told him how he found this car in a filed just 35 days before Paso. He completely rebuilt the entire car (along with a chop and paint and interior)in 35 days. The crazy part is that he lost his job because he worked on the car all day, lost his finacee, parents stoped talking to him, had his telephone and power cut off,ran an extension cord from his neighbors outdoor outlet for power, hadn't eaten anything or slept in almost a week until Paso and was getting kicked out of his place. All for the sake of Paso. Hope that helps, welcome to the HAMB, and hope to see ya there! Look for the red/black 55 pontiac with the 4SALE sign on it.
Jesus Christ! After the Round-p, you wanna finish MY Model A?? Great progress, looks like it's gonna be a sick car, can't wait to see it at the RU in person. Welcome to the addiction we call the HAMB...
[ QUOTE ] 40StudeDude???? Where are you? Two good intros in a day. [/ QUOTE ] Man o man...how could I have missed that?? Weellllll, I was away from the computer most all day delivering more concept art and collecting checks...I love that part, ya know? But, this is one of the VERY best intros I have seen to date....but then again, it's hard to find fault with this guy's friends down there in SA,Texas...bet they schooled him so he wouldn't get flamed. Regardless, welcome to The House of HAMB...I'll SEE YOU at the round-up. R-
Tic-Toc-Tic-Toc-Tic-Toc-Tic-Toc-Tic-Toc.....if everyone had a intro like this we would never get anything done in the garage. Good Luck...I'll put $5 on that you make the run.
Welcome and good luck! Looks like a very good start. I'm under the gun to get to the roundup too, puttin' a T-5 in my 49 behind a flatty...Not near as much as you have to do, bet a challenge none the less! Especially since I'm goung skiing saturday for a week. Look forward to seeing you at the roundup!!!
Who are you? And how the hell did you get in my garage? Atleast now I know what happened to the lower 2 inches of my trunk lid! Car's coming along quick. I dont come over two nights and the whole damn thing is built.
Welcome to the HAMB. I barely missed the RU last year, by about 8 hours of work, and 4 days before the roundup my car wasn't even as far along as yours is now. I'm sure you'll make it. Keep the pics coming, and we'll all be looking for you to drive in at the show.

Here I thought that a new intro would be bloodied like an 8th grade English paper with red ink from those just waiting to pounce on new meat. Guess all showed mercy, or I did something right. Look for my updates as i get a chance to post them. They'll be titled "XX days to the Roundup" with the XX being the real number of days.
Well I'm late on your intro, to late to thrash you! I have seen the car and can say it is killer! Glad you made it on board, its going to be a fun ride to Austin. See you later Blane. Sandman Barons So.Texas
[ QUOTE ] HA HA HA HA..and I was worrying about getting mine together for the Roundup. -Jason [/ QUOTE ] I thought I saw yours at the drags last November. It looked more than ready. I'll add a few more progress pics to show the completed front end, completed brakes, refinished banjo wheel, and a teaser pic of the body I'll be using.
