    Howdy everybody,

I just picked up a 53 Victoria so I joined this group so I can pick your brains about fixing it up some. Right now money is my biggest obstacle. It only needs an overflow tank, air cleaner, lights, spare tire, jack, etc. to get it on the road.

Good evening and welcome to this great and ever-growing group. Lots of good stuff here for our mid-50s Fords.

Probably one of the most unreliable and dangerous things Ford ever created was the original jacks that came with these 50's Fords.I tried the one in my '54 and before I could get a stand under it it tilted over, and that was on a level concrete driveway. The '54 I had in high school I sold to a buddy from my high school auto shop cl*** when I joined the Army in '64,on several occasions He was scolded for not using stands in cl***.Sadly while I was in basic training he was working on the '54 in his dad's barn and the jack tipped and the rear end pumpkin crushed his scull and killed him,no stands again.Do your self a favor get a small hydraulic floor jack, carry a stand and be safe.

    Welcome to the group!

    Jeff,
I'm looking at getting all of my "i"s dotted and "t"s crossed safety-wise for the coming season, and after trying to use the stock jack last year to change a flat, it became pretty apparent that a better one is needed. I am looking to get a floor jack that I can keep in the trunk- what should the weight capacity be, and could you recommend a brand/ model?

Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread
