Hey guys. I've been reading the forum for a while now, and really have enjoyed and learned alot from it. Lots of great projects and people here. Anyway, my name is Dan, and I'm 34. I love welding and fabricating, and love traditional rods. I've been building rods since I was a little dude, as my dad has always been a hot rodder.

We've decided to build a fenderless truck project. I found a real solid rust free 39 Dodge to start with. Just got the chassis built. Its a pretty typical 2x3 box tube chassis, z'ed 3" in the front, and a 12" rear kickup. The basic frame is done, need to fininsh k'ing the frame and fab up suspension & motor mount, etc, but at least we are able to mock it up. The truck will have a chopped top, and a handbuilt shortened bed with a louvered gate. The grille is a plymouth shell, and I have two hood tops to fab into a lengthened top with carbs poking thru.

Power will be from a 394 Olds, with either two 4's or tri-power. Color will probably be satin dark blue with red steelies and engine and suspension pieces. If this works right I'll try to post a few pics of it as it stands. Good to find the hamb!

    Welcome aboard.

With a 394 in that truck, you might be buying a lot of rear tires if you are not easy on the gas pedal.

Very cool, but you wont be able to haul a full sheet of plywood in that short bed.

Thanks for the nice welcome guys! As I stated, I really love the board, I seasrched MANY topics and found great posts on all. I am really excited about the truck project. Its nice to build one with dad too. Yeah, it won't be a great parts hauler with the short bed, but I think you're right the 394 should move it ok:D. Again guys, thanks for the welcome! Dan

PS just for inspiration I did a CRUDE edit to show what it will look like chopped-i like it lots...

Looks like you've got a good start on your Dodge. It'll be a really sharp rod when you're done. Welcome from a new guy in Illinois.

Thanks for the kind words fellows, nice to meet ya'll! My weekend was going to be used to fab up motor/tranny mounts, but it instantly got packed with a bunch of bs I wasn't planning on. What else is new right? Hopefully I can still get over there on Sunday and get some more done. I'm inspired now that I get an idea of what she'll look like done, I wanna drive it!!:D

Welcome, Dan! Nice job on the the truck. Is it really goin to sit that low or are you planning to trim the body up?

Hey thanks bro. Actually I'm gonna trim the rockers at the top of the tapeline. It will still by low at drive height(rockers 6" above ground) but doable. The rear will be bagged, so if I need a liitle extra lift for driveways I can pick it up a couple extra inches

    Nice...
That's a great idea for a deeper channel. Those are some tall rocker sections. Post some more pictures when you get more done!

Yeah the stock rockers are HUGE. I think once its chopped and the rockers are cut off the side profile will be much better, as the door itself(without the rocker) is nice and short, so once its chopped the side profile will look much better(almost as if it was slightly sectioned). Thanks again, I'll definitely post progress pics!
