Projects Introducing myself 1953 customline

Just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Alex from Texas and this is my 1953 ford customline original flathead v8 was found in Chicago and sold to me by my uncle. The new journey begins.

 

Welcome to the HAMB. Love the car, looks like a great starting point for your build. Speaking of which, what are your plans for this project?

 

First Plan is to fix the body. Being from Illinois it has some rust that needs repair. But I just gonna keep it mostly original with a little traditional hot rod. Lowered with bias ply tires and engine hot rod parts. Being from Chicago, I’d like to get grancor speed parts.

Hmmm. No mention of LS, mustang sub, air bags etc,. Well done ! You're on the right track. Dig the "local" grancor desire to use parts. Looks like a great start.!

Did my first mod. Just to remind myself that I am in search of some ultra rare and hard to find parts just to keep the car in its roots.

 

I like the window decal. Nice mod!

 

Neat car. My first car was a '53 Ford 2 door sedan which I still have, and I have a mild custom '52 as well. If you haven't heard yet, there are cheap replacement coil springs for Ford Aerostar minivans that bolt into these and give a 2 or 3" drop in the front without replacing any other parts. There's a thread all about it, including which shocks to use. Cheap and easy swap for a lowering job.

 

Nice lookin' car. When I was in high school, a friend had one like it (different color though), that we changed from an automatic to a stick. I made the spring swap mentioned above on my '51 coupe. That, and going to radial tires, completely changed the handling qualities of the car from scary to competent.

I like to drive my cars.

Welcome to The HAMB__! Been around flatheads, All my Life, my older brother, Walt (deceased) had a '53 Ford ragtop, I remember it as if was yesterday__ It had a Fordamatic transmission, the original engine was of no value (shot). He installed a rebuilt engine ( purchased from Sears Roebuck ), and converted it to manual transmission / 3-on-the-tree. Making it a semi-custom , he removed the "faux" continental from the trunk lid, filled the holes, it was smooth . Fender skirts , lowering blocks, a set of Dodge Lancer hub caps on the front wheels and a new persimmon (orange) coat of paint.

In High School, my cousin had a '53 Customline with a 6 but that didn't deter him from adding a floor shifter, lowering, a green and yellow paint job and racing rubber on chrome disc wheels with baby moons....looking fast is half the formula and your black car has it
