I recently joined this Forum after being directed here by a member of another Forum, brucer, who was sure I'd get the help I need here. As far as introduction, I'm not sure how detailed I should be, but here goes: I'm 65 years old and retired as a Lieutenant from the Chicago Police Department in 1995. I moved to Texas than and had a home built just south of Dallas. At that time I had four young children and I JUST HAD to get them into a better environment. BEST MOVE I EVER MADE! My oldest daughter (26) graduated from Harvard, Class of 2005, Electrical Engineering and was gobbled up by the State Department. She's currently posted at the embassy in Algeria, Africa. My son (23) graduated from West Point in MAY 2010 and has been assigned to the 7th Calvary at Ft. Hood, near Killeen, TX. It's his 96 Vette engine I'm in need of help with; the block to be specific. My youngest (now 20) graduated with a Bachelor's in Photo Journalism TWO YEARS AGO. That was when she was 18! She skipped high school altogether and went straight from the 8th grade to college. My 3rd daughter (21) is a senior at Howard University in Washington, D.C.; Biology. Me? Two graduate degrees - both police related. I went through the entire spectrum of police department assignments. From being a patrol officer, to the Tactical Unit (you know, the blue jean/gym shoe guys that kick down the dope dealers' doors, LOL), a Homicide Detective, field supervisor as a Sergeant, 9 years as an Internal Affairs Division investigator as a Sergeant and, finally, 5+ years as a Lieutenant/Watch Commander before retiring. 1966-1995. All of that was while being assigned to South Side, High Crime police districts. I was born and raised in Chicago and while there I use to build BB Chevy quarter mile engines for several teams in the area. We only ran the 1/4 mile and all the cars ran 8s with one carb and less than 500 CID. I've pretty much gotten away from building engines -I've gotten older and the amount of Attention to Detail required to build competitive engines began to wear me out. Right now, I only build engines for friends and family. Hope that covers it. I could go on and on, but why bore you guys any longer, LOL. Jake
