  1. C4 fronts just lay in a pocket in the control arm. I totally get the shackle being "right", BTW.

They list that as a part number that they stock.

Do you happen to have a picture of what these things look like?

Sorry no pic. I have the rubber on on my drive shaft. They are basically a truncated cone shape about 5/6 inches long. You put them on with a metal crimp clamp on each end, then lace up the seam. You could probably make something similar out of scrap leather

  4. Great build Flipper! the gas tank is from a late 20s Chev.

Here are some pics of some home made leather gaiters for the ujoint. Probably too short for your application but the principle is the same

The pics don't show for me.

Are they hosted on a board where I need to be registered on to see the pics?

Looks like I am going to get to work on the car this weekend. Not 100% sure what the next step should be.

I'm guessing that it should be to permanently mount the front crossmember and mount lower control arms. Once the arms are set, I should be able to plant my shackle hangers in the right spot.

That will probably tie up the whole weekend. If it doesn't, I will try and nail down the design for motor mounts and the path for the steering shaft....right now they look like they will be competing for the same space. I probably need to figure that out be fore I move to the upper control arm fabrication.

Shit happened and I did not make it to dad's house.

There was a wreck going the other direction. One of the cars crossed the centerline and I collided with them head on at 45 mph.

I don't have any broken bones or life threatening injuries, but I feel like I was thrown off of a 5 story building and landed in the grass.....I look ok, but everything hurts.

The little red car is screwed.

  12. Dang! Glad you are okay. Shame about the little red car, especially after your road trip thread.

Yep. I hate losing the little red car. Even though it was not a cool car itself, I took some great road trips in it that were hot rod related. The trip to the 2008 Detroit Autorama was fun...we drove it through a blizzard that deposited 20 inches of snow in Ohio.

I'm gonna try to find another one just like it.

OUCH, glad you are OK, Looks like the Toyota did a real good job protecting you. 45 plus the speed of the other car ad looks like both doors will still open. So the Nissan rearended the tan car and then swerved into your lane???? Bet somebody was on the cell phone.....

I've taken a lot of crap over the years for driving a "chick car", but it really served me well.

Yep, she rammed the 4 door and then shot over into my lane.

I went and cleaned my stuff out of the car......and discovered that my Cadillac spare tire cover got bent in the crash (it was in the trunk with the tank). :(

Maserati Tipo 8CM I think...LOVE this build! The Jag is a great choice. For sure, keep the SU's they have the right feel. Gonna build a big ol' Brooklands can with a fishtail?

I will probably make an integrated muffler similar to the brooklands, but I am probably going to pass on the fish tail tip. ....but, exhaust is one of the details that I keep flip-flopping on.

Either way, its gonna be cool. The fishtail might be a little over the top, but if I can think of anything where it would work, this would be it.

I'm anxious to get back on it, but this whiplash is kicking my ass. I was feeling pretty good and drove to dad's house on the long Thanksgiving weekend. The drive down hurt me. Once I got there I really wasn't in the mood to risk any new pain.

I have a long weekend planned for next weekend. I am hoping I get something done then.

I forgot to mention that on Thanksgiving I did verify that the u-bolts that I bought at the pumpkin run swap meet are exactly what I need to mount the spring. Now I need to finalize my design on how to mount the spring.

Anybody have thoughts on if the u-bolts should be straight up and down like this: I I

or perpendicular to the arched crossmember like this: \ / ?

Which ever way it is, I know I need to make sure the nuts tighten down on a matching surface. I will modify the crossmember as required.

She's made it a long way. Winter is on us now anyway and it's friggin cold right now. Too bad about the wreck. Hopefully you start feeling better. I keep looking at that intersection and I've been there but can't place it. I'm in Northern Ky but get all over the state traveling.

The cadillac spare tire cover over the rear tire gives an idea what it would look like with tall wheels and tires. I kinda like the look of full cycle fenders too.
