Hello, first time posting so a bit of introduction first. I've been working on cars for about 30 years now. It started because I was too broke to pay other people to wrench on my cars. Now I do it because it is fun and lets me do work to my standards. I have a '73 Camaro with a built 454, I built the engine. My daily driver is an '82 Jeep Cherokee that is wheeled regularly. I'm working on a couple of Barracuda's for a friend right now.

The reason for this post is I picked up some vintage auto glass at a garage sale for a song and wanted to find out what I have so they can go to a good home and be reused instead of trashed.

    Here are the details:

There are 3 pieces of glass, I suspect two are Left and Right rear windows with a hinged opening. The third I suspect is from the same car as the markings are identical and it seems to have the same curve radius.

The markings on the glass are as follows:
    Safety Plate
    AS2 IX
    Solid Tempered
    M51

The gap between Safety and Plate above has LOF descending in a rectangle.

The suspected rear windows are 5-sided, bottom is 15 inches, rear-bottom, curved section is 9 inches, rear upper straight section is 16.5 inches, top section is 7.25 inches and front section is 15 inches. They both have a circular metal attachment point with a protrusion on the inside. Based on the residue/condition of the glass, I suspect they were hinged at the front and attached at the rear to create a vent window.

The third window has the same markings and is 28.5 inches long16.25 inches high and swept back about 25 degrees.

Thank you in advance and if there is anything I need to do to upload photos, please let me know.

  2. Welcome to the HAMB from Illinois.

Figuring out what make, model and year used that glass is going to be difficult.

The LOF logo tells you it was manufactured by the Libbey Owens Ford glass company.
SAFETY PLATE means it is safety version of "plate" type glass.
AS2 denotes side or rear glass, either laminated or tempered.
IX is the date code. I denotes the month of June. X gives a year of 1955, 1968 or 1981.
SOLID TEMPERED means the glass is monolithic (single pane) heat treated tempered safety glass.
M51 tells you it is non-tinted, and that it is door glass.

Now we just need to nail down what vehicle it suits. My first thought was 1968 Camaro, but I don't think that's it.
It should be something from 1955 or 1968. Anything from later (eg:1981) will have the letters DOT and a two number code in the last line.

You guys are terrific; I had found some of the information but was stumped on the final answer. If I ever see you at a car show, let me know that you are the glass experts and I'll buy you a beer. Thank you again.
