Hi everyone, I've been browsing the board for a while as a guest, and decided to register. Found the HAMB while browsing cl***ifieds looking for a door for my 34 truck (No, I haven't found a good one yet, dammit).

It seems that it's a requirement to introduce one's self around here, and besides, it's just the decent thing to do. So, hi.

I'm Clay Rathburn, 30, from Roanoke VA. I've been involved with hot rods since I could walk, thanks to my Dad, who operates Alleghany Speed Shop in Salem VA. I spent a bunch of years running a fabrication business specializing in design and manufacture of headers and intake manifolds, mostly for NHRA Sport Compact teams, and sports car road race cars. However, the older I got, the stupider the import crowd got. So I said screw it, and gave in to the benefits and steady paycheck that come with working for someone else. I've always wanted to build a 34 pickup, and since I can't stand sports cars anymore, it seemed like the thing to do. Plus, I figured if I didn't build a hotrod soon, my Dad would kill me, lol. I've attached a pic of the cut down A sedan we finished at his shop last year, since I have no decent pics of my 34 yet (going to try to take some tomorrow)

Anyhow, nice to be here, and I look forward to hanging around.

Welcome, from Illinois. It's good that you wised up on the imports and went to Hot Rods. Also, sharp looking A too.

Thanks for the welcomes! The 'change is indeed real, vintage Halibrand. Seemed a shame to hide it behind the rear panel, so a hole was born :)

Thanks guys. So far, this is a great board, I mean, where else you gonna find a hammered aluminum cowboy hat :)

I'll get some pics of my 34 up tonight. I have a few before pics, as well as some current pics, working on dropping the windshield opening 3/4" inch closer to the cowl, chopping, as well as door post/a pillar rebuilding.

I saw your car at the Detroit Autorama last year. Beautiful work! If I recall our conversation correctly, you made the tub from parts you had laying around and the fog light idea was due to having only one! Not sure if it was you but the two guys who were at the display were a riot!

That was my Dad, and his buddy John, I couldn't roll to Detroit with them (see "work for someone else", lol) The car was pretty much put together from stuff that had been collecting dust for 20 years or so. The A sedan body spent a lot of time in my garage before he came and got it, claiming he had a "vision" :) The foglight was kinda my thing, one foglight was something seen on a few cars back in the day, and I thought it looked great nestled in the nerf bar. He's since replaced it with an original King Bee fog, mounted to a tab on the nerf bar.

Someone asked about the striping.....Tom at www.welloiledmachines.com hooked up the striping and the ****** eyeball on the back panel. His work is amazing, check out his site for some of his oil paintings and striping work.

Started as an A Tudor. Lots of people guess Vicky when they see the rear panel sloping inward. Like I said though, that's pretty much all my old man's work on that car, I did some detail fabrication and ***embly on it, but that one is mostly him.

Awesome. I have a dream for a A sedan, about that year, that color. I can now see from yours how really great that works out. Outstanding car. Is that paint a custom mix, or some factory color?

Love that sedan/tub. Was that a Victoria body or did you fella's make that *** end like that? The side profile of that thing is way cool. What's it running for power?

Welcome to the HAMB! GREAT ride. I was drooling all over it at last years Autorama. You and your Dad do AWESOME work. Here are a couple of the many shots I took of it. Are you one of the guys that are sitting behind it in the first photo??
