    Yeah, uhm. Hi.
What can I say. I drive a 60 cad sedan. Started out all stock, drove it for 2 years as my daily driver. Lost compression on 2 cylinders, blamed it on headgasket. Wrong. Turns out, bad rings lead to bad pistons lead to bad shafts digging into my waterjacket. Big ole mess. Two cylinder's re-lined, the rest bored .030 over, intake and exhaust ported, all balanced, put her back together with a 750 edelbrock replacement 4 barrel, and a monster was born. 400hp, 500ft lbs est at the crank. Then came minor electrical upgrades. New skull 3rd brake lights w/ eyeball turn signals. Changed front turn signal pattern, and upgraded to "amber" for the 5.0's. Then put in the Cessna lights behind the grill for that extra night time visability. That lead to the burning up of a few generator rebuilds, thus leading to an alternator. Which is currently going through belts like crazy. So next idea is a single serpentine belt, as apose to the three v belts I got now. That and an upgraded fuel pump located at the tank end, to clean up the engine bay a bit. (current pump is located on the front of the engine...kinda goofy setup). Also in the plans are a trans rebuild or swap for overdrive, and a rear end geared the same or lower, with posi traction aka limited slip rear. Might go with a ford 9 incher, or whatever GM I can find at the yards. I'm sick of one wheel burnouts. Oh.. one more thing. All the photos on my webpage are from the "stock" days. I no longer run hubcaps, those flippin things never stayed on anyway. I'm soon ditchin a lotta chrome/stainless trim too, so if you know anybody whose interested lemme know, otherwise e-bay is gonna get some decent caddy trim.

and to answer all the questions I normally get at the gas station. Itsa 60, notta 59. Yes it's got 2 more doors, no it's notta 500, no it's not stock, yes the interior is original, no it's not my grandpa's, yes it'll smoke the tires, yes it's lower than original, no it's notta lowrider and it's not gonna be, no I don't want hydraulics, no I don't like 22 inch rims, yes it will fit 5 body's in the trunk, yes you can do whatever you want in the back seat, no you won't beat it from the line, and NO it's not for sale.

Well, since no one else will say "Hi" & welcome to ya, I will...being as how you're a Caddy lover you can't be all that bad...my son has a '59 Coop DeVille two door hardtop, my brother has a '54 Cad 2 door hardtop (kustom) and I'm thrashing on a '48 Caddy Sedanet...

So you didn't say what the engine is...425, 472? Just that you went thru it and now have 400 HP...

I'd say the alternator is not aligned with the engine pulleys...there's no reason why it should be throwing belts if it's aligned properly,....and a serpentine system mite not solve that problem...

    Anyway, welcome...

    R-

60 Cads are cool. There's a black 2dr HT sitting about 6 blocks from where I live. I think it's broke, has the left rear wheel off and it's on stands. Pretty damn nice otherwise.

Thanks for the warm welcome [IMG]

As for the engine, it started life as a 390, it's now about a 405.

As for the alignment of the alternator, I hadn't thought too much about that. But now that you mention it, it may be a little off. I'll have to check that out.

As to what part of the world I hail from, Cary, Illinois to be exact at the moment. Born n raised in the N.W. suburbs, moved to North Carolina at 20, moved back at 25, and who knows if I'll move back "down south" anytime soon. Gotta go where the jobs are that pay.

Hmm.. what else can I say bout me. I'm 27 yrs old, married to a georgious wife, gotta 5 month old son who is the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm a social worker by day, photographer any other time, and I love to work on cars as a hobby. I aint no cl*** "A" mechanic, but I can handle most jobs without any real trouble (minus ****** knuckles n stuff) but that comes with the territory.

Don't hesitate to ask me any other questions either. I prolly ask for more help than I can give, but I help as often as I can.

    Peace
    Chris

Hi Chris! Welcome! Sounds like you've had your share of "fun" with the car lately!

You were on the Pileup site, right? Did you ever make it to the show? I was too bust running around that I didn't see half teh cars there.

  13. Welcome Chris! Caddies make the coolest cruisers, well at least I think so! I really like 60's and if I didn't have my '63 a 60 is what I be cruisin in.

Yeah hellfish, I was all over the pileup site. I didn't end up making it, as my son had a cold. When a 4 month old has a cold it's a big deal, so I had to stay and take care of him. But thanx for asking. I plan on making it to next years for sure. I oughtta have a few more things done by then.... specially now that I've met a few interesting folks on this site. Who knows what's in store for the ole Sophie B.
