Hi, I'm a flathead 6 guy. I've got two of them-- '54 and '55 Plymouths. Both have reground cams and multiple carbs. I've even got a Edmunds Custom head. I've been scanning these pages for a while, and I like all the info that goes out of here. I only hope that I could use some of it, and maybe provide a little too. Thanks Moose This me on the strip
hey moose>>>>>> moose is a good guy i got a flat in my merc on my way to the jalopy jamboree couple years ago..of course with no jack or spare(really stupid) the moose man bailed me out...thanks again
Hey man, How are you? I remember cause I was trailering the race car that day. That was a heavy load for that flathead.
hey moose im looking at a 55 plymouth 4 door here in peabody.it has a rebiult motor 6cll...that i wont be using ill keep ya posted..
Jeebs? He's a Stumblin Idle....I've known the guy for years...probably one of the coolest guys in the world. Rides a new Triumph, always has a beer and a cigar close by. Heya Dave! Glad to see you lived through the holidays. Chuck V. came by work after visiting you a few weeks ago and tells me the Merc is looking great.
Now why wouldn't you wanna run a flat 6? They just keep going and going... That is unless you race them hard then pull a trailer. I spun a bearing about 3 months after that! I have since rebuilt it and did a bunch to it. Runs like stink now. I could even set you up with a manifold and headers. But keep me in mind if you are going to throw it away.
What I'm wanting to know is how well the wild header/log intake seutp works on the flat six? I pitched something like that to my dad with the idea of running the exhaust out six separate pipes with motorcycle baffles in the end. He said I was crazy and I would burn up valves all the time. He also doubted to effectiveness of the log intake. I just want to know if I'm as crazy as he says or crazy like a fox.
If theres no back pressure, and a lean mixture, and a mad man at the throttle--then you'll burn valves. If you run more than just one stock carb you'll never be too lean. I run headers into full exhaust(2 inch) through gl***-packs and there is back pressure, though I'm sure less than stock. Log manifolds do just fine. Two carbs are better than one right? With the carbs spaced right it works fine and you don't end up with lean or rich cylinders most of the time And I think I'm the wrong person to judge what kind of crazy you are...
