So before you ask WTF is up with the thread ***le.... As you will see, while born a Sport Coupe....it will emerge as a 5W.
A few progress pics before a got the itch to transform it over to a hardtop. Wheel wells in their initial stages. Hand formed Tulip panel that I needed "at the time"
My question is, which will take longer, the song or the build? @Boxcar's 1928 you look to have the skill to pull it off, that's for sure. What's the plan?
Originally, that song was ***led; "In the garden of eden ", but their enunciation was so bad, they changed it. Cool coupe concept though. Refreshing change from the "coupster" conversion...
The story I heard was that they were so stoned/drunk that they were slurring...... About the car.....great vision with the cardboard door! That thing will be cool. Looks like you have some good sheet metal shaping skills! Go man go!
So, who's gonna post the 17.03 minute video on here???..... I would if I could.... I just don't know how..
You know what they call a guy that hangs around with musicians? A drummer. I hate drum solos and that was a long one! On the other hand I welcome another 5 window, I will be stay tuned for the transformation.
Wow! That brings back memories! My girlfriend's hot sister doing a very sultry solo dance for the full 17+ minutes. That was 1972. I'll never forget it. BTW, looks like a great conversion on the Model A. Dave
Just got done watching the April 16, 1971 video of that song.... 22.40 minutes long.... It's pretty good!
Well, now that we all mucked up the intro of this thread, have any other pics of the project @Boxcar's 1928 ? What's the plan, era, or some dreams you have for it?
Glad you asked....I've got a 8ba that needs gone thru....but I'm hopeful. The only modern item planed so far is a T5 trans despite having a few 3 speeds lying around. Will be channeled over the frame. 2in chop to keep it drivable for me. No fenders. Some light touches executed the best I can ....not a big money car. Ill do nearly all myself hopefully. 5 meter target is stabilizing and correcting some of the roof components before it gets more difficult being put together.
I've been fighting with my options with this "Good Deal Car". After considerable deliberation I decided that I need a roof to be happy with the car. Was about to build a buck and fate stepped in and saved me some mega time and frustration (roof pieces became available) Here is a few shots of were I'm at with the 'Lid Prep' While the parts were a god send...they have had a rough past and needed some love before I advance on cutting on the SC body and grafting the 5W to it. Driver side had some old lead that had been filled in over a weld and some metal distortion occurred. I suspect that as both rear corner beltlines had been crushed a bit down (picture your belly rolling over your own belt...it happens) the car may have been rolled or set upside down in a wrecking yard for some time. Attch. is some pics with lead and then after removed... My plan is to cut that distorted seam and replace with this patch. I also will be doing some shrinking today to hopefully tighten up a few areas that have been overworked in the past. I am very much an amateur... Open to feedback on the process pics and patch. I plan on some shaping after the weldup. It will be **** welded in and dressed up. The early damage to the bead of the old repair made cutting out and starting over my best option...
Information request for the group... I suspect I should have my wood header amiable and potentially installed during fitting of the roof. Any info or detail pics are appreciated. Vendor recommendations for headers???? Or those to avoid!!!
Loaded up a video on the Tube covering use of a HF welding stud gun as a heat source for shrinking metal. First time for me...worked great and kept the heat very local to the spot I wanted to concentrate on. You can find it at Boxcar's Garage if your interested. Have a great weekend!!
Today was a full day on this drivers side panel. There was enough stretched metal that would had made the grafting more difficult that it should be... So, as the beltline was basically flared out like a pair of 70's bell bottoms...I focused on that. Would say I'm 3/4 of the way (in matching the p***enger side...I believe it's near correct) Used a combo of tactics today. -shrinker -stud gun and quench -propane torch and some clamps -hammer and dollies -and finally made myself a palm sized leather shot bag (sewed it up misself!) More tomorrow may have to make a few spaced vertical slices in the beltlines.. weld up and let that process finish the job. We'll see.
Flop, a super metalman from Pittsburgh, PA, makes panels for '30-'31 Model A closed cars that welds in behind the visor, strengthens the entire top, and resembles a '32 closed car. He is on Instagram under Floppgh.
I checked his Instagram and have looked for an example of what you speak of....no luck so far. I'd like to see a thread on it.
