A friend and I went up to Woodstock yesterday for Iron Invasion. This is a great show (I hadn't been to it before), I'll be going to it again next year. We got here around 9:30a and things were already rocking. The weather kinda sucked; cold, cloudy, windy, but that's October in Chicago. A guy in the swap meet area selling hats and gloves could have made a mint. We stayed until about 4:00p, when things seemed to be winding down and a lot of cars were starting to leave. The schedule had stuff through 8:00p, though. But, after a day in the cold and wind, it was time to head out. So, I probably didn't get to see every car, and certainly didn't see every part of the show, 'cause it's too big to see everything in one day. Since you guys like pictures, if I did this right, here's a bunch of pictures: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/iron-invasion.45244/
I mostly just skip those. There are occasional details on them to check out, but I'm really not in to the rolling pile of stuff look. I admire the "get out and drive what you've got" spirit.
Man, I thought I saw most of the cars there this year, but you found a couple that I missed seeing. Thanks for the pics.
I admire the spirit as well but they are just so over the top like that blue Plymouth truck thing with the hemi and 4 0r 6 carbs. Interesting yes but I don't think driving around in a total rust bucket of a body is cool. But to each his own I guess.
Thanks for the nice pictures David for those of us that remembered to bring our warm clothes but forgot the camera. Last year there was snow on the grassy areas when I arrived. This show had way more cars than the last 3 years.
Thanks for posting the great photos, you even have one of my coupe. I agree, there were a lot of cars in attendance this year. We will do it again next October.
if you were talkin about this truck,...it was an old International and altho I wouldn't want anything like it, I found it interesting;...it looked to be done a long time ago, not a recent build, either that or they sure knew how to make it look old. The cab was narrowed, it did run very nicely. ..a young girl drove it in.
David,...you won't be allowed to sell gloves, handwarmers or hats in the swapmeet unless they are vintage items, no new items in the swapmeet, sorry. (I know a few vendors had newer stuff this year and notice was given to them) ...maybe one of these years we'll get lucky and get a nice day for Sat.///this year Friday was pretty nice compared to Sat..beautiful sunny skies and 62 degrees....too bad we couldn't have gotten a duplicate for Sat.
We had a great time agian this year. Bought a bitch'n set of headlights for my 34 Ford PU from the swap meet. I sear I saw someone selling gloves, there was a long line there.
Ah, was only a joke. No worries. Hoping for better weather next year. Great show deserves great weather.
Oh, yes indeed. Spent quite a while walking around and checking out the details. Thanks for bringing it.
Thanks for the pictures....I always encourage people to put on their own show and we will be happy to come and support. I have given 30 different people advice on starting their own shows.....4 have actually gone through with it. All 4 have told me "I had no idea how difficult people would be". Yes. People are always expecting a Rodders Journal type show.........and hmmmm..... that show is no longer happening. PLEASE understand that the Iron Invasion purpose is to help CHILDREN with congenital heart defects. This is a fund raiser to help families with kids that hospital bills that need to be paid. So, while people complain about what cars are in or out of the show.....you are missing the REAL reason for the show. Wake up people. If you cant come to the show, have a good time, see old friends and make some new ones.....then our show is not for you. If you have a great car, but a hard heart.....please stay at home. We don't care what kind of car you have - if you have a huge heart. This is why we charge the SAME admission price for spectators And car owners. And we have segregated parking........ We have a great team of people that put this event on and when people can't focus on the positive..... We just ask you to be a part of the solution. We ALWAYS need volunteers. And if those that are truly wanting to get to an invite show, PLEASE email me about Retro Rewind. This is our indoor invitational show in Dubuque in Jan. We give gas money for that show. Email vintagetorque@gmail.com if you have more questions about any of this.
