for a quick primer on the '49-'64 Olds V8 well done and only needing a few clarifications, ie: Horne never made a 2x2 intake, not all 371's can be lumped together with the 394, a simple gear swap will let you install later distributors in early blocks.. etc. but a great watch just the same, well done! I enjoyed it, thanks Matt!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the 303/324 internally balanced and the 371/394 externally balanced?
Yes, like I said there are few bits of info that should be clarified but for an intro to the early Olds V8 Matt did a pretty good job
Yeah for sure, it's a good intro video for the person who is just learning about that engine family. The Olds is a tough generation to get your head around since there are so many tweaks throughout their production. Differences in deck height, intake interchange, distributor drive gears, starters, flywheel tooth counts, cam journal size, lifter bore diameter, cam and engine length, valve cover bolt pattern, whether a crank was drilled for a pilot bushing or not.... and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
@Paul which year was it where they went to the physically longer engine? 59? 60? I always forget when they made that change.
Very good. That makes sense to coincide with the different valve covers, exhaust manifolds, etc. It also makes it very confusing since an intake that first 57 and 58 371s won't fit the 59 371.
