is a 65 chevy 230 I-6 an interfeerence engine?

    lost the fucking cam gear lastnight....

    think the pistons hit the valves?

    got an aluminum gear set on the way
    (i believe the crank gear is cast)

    should a gear swap fix me?>
     
  2. i could be wrong , but i don't believe it is....you are probably ok, i'm sure others on here will know for sure

    pull the valvecover, you'll know pretty quick.

    no it's not an interference engine, but the cam gear has to be pressed on. You will have to remove the camshaft from the engine. Not too hard, but time consuming. Good luck. Tom
     
  6. wow,post a picture of the damage as something had to of stopped very suddenly to break that gear.

    i beat the shat out of this engine, and its a fiberous gear or so my parts guy says...

    i will post a pic later tonight after i tear it down.

    fiber gears were common on those things, doesn't take much (just time) for it to break.

    Lucky it's not a 235, they can lock up the motor when the timing gear goes out. cam hits rod bolt...there are reliefs in the cam to clear the bolts, but that doesn't work right when the cam is not turning

    well after an hour and a half of trying to get the ballancer off ( yes with a puller, some solid stock and a 2.2 lbs sledge)

    its time for an engine swap!!!!!
    no reason to run a chevy engine nehow!!!
