While this is a question about the board, it's really a question of "do all you traditional folks want to see this '65 "survivor"? It was a question for the members of the board...which typically hang out in the main section. I didn't even know that this Q&S forum existed. So, now that the post is on here, the "general public" of the HAMB won't be as likely to see my original question. So, I see the point of this section of the board, but I think that metalshapes meant that I wouldn't be as likely to get as broadly based of an answer by being here (since there seems to be far less activity here). As such, I'm still not completely sure if a '65 (that's identical to it's '64 "HAMB friendly by the rules" counterpart) drug out of 30+ years of storage car should be posted...
With all due respect, this is not something we are going to be voting on. We put the cut off date in place for a reason. To keep the Ponycars and the Musclecars out. You asked if it fits the HAMB. Answer is: Its in a gray area, at best.
when i think of hamb traditional cars, i think of older cars. when i think of the so called 64 cut-off year, i think more about build style rather than the actual year. i think of early 60's customs or cars that were on the show circuit and in magazines back then. i for one, don't want to look at a 64 or 65 unless it's been customized like they did back in the day. that's why we like the older cars, the survivors that were built back then in that style and why we frown upon those same year cars when they are built in an 80's monochromatic paint or later 20 inch dubs. so i'm thinking that unless it has some historical significance, it might be better on another forum.
I said I am against anything newer than maybe 1960. I also mentioned a friend recently bought then sold a near mint 1965 Cuda 2-dr. When he brought it over for me to look at I drooled as if it were a 32 Ford or any other older car. Yes, I love anything with ***s or tires. Maybe that's why some of us love cars with round headlights! But there must be a cutoff point in any group.
Yea, that's why I come here. It's the "era" that I like. A lot of HAMBers seem to be car history buffs, so I thought that a pristine example of a '65 car would interest a lot of folks (I'm not deep enough in the pockets to do "Hemi under gl***", even though I'd love to-and besides, this car is too nice to do that to). I am here for cool pics, history, and I love everybody sharing knowlege and bustin each other's chops. I knew the car was "grey area" so I wanted to hear from other HAMBers if they wanted to see it. Some folks said yes, so I'll simply PM them later when I've got the car cleaned up and rolling around.
So, I checked out the Dogfight. Damn, that is an ugly forum. I couldn't stand to look at the page for long, let alone post or discuss something, so I think I'll stick to the HAMB!
I've seen some people get offended when they are asked to move their car or project to another one of Ryan's Forums. And I honestly do not understand why... I post on the Dogfight as well, because I own and build cars that are Off Topic for the HAMB. I've always seen it as an extra opportunity, and not as a restrictive thing. If you have seperate bins for the nuts, bolts and washers, it seem logical to me to put a washer in the bin with the rest of the washers...
Really? Seems to me, the people and the projects make a Forum. And there are some really nice people and some damn impressive projects on the Dogfight...
Ha, yea-I take no offense. I'm a systems engineer by day, so I look at a computer screen a lot and if the color palette of a site stresses my eyes I just can't participate for long. Dogfight probably has some good stories and tech (Ryan seems like a cool guy, so I'm sure if his hand is in it it's a decent site) but right now my eyes are too fried to handle that much text on a pure white background . The content is absolutely what makes the forum, but I gotta give my tired eyes a break-dogfight will probably not work for me without me tweaking some settings on my end (and really, I'm a tad too lazy to mess with that for now-I just wrapped up work...).
You could post some pics to your albums in your profile and caption as a build thread and post a link in your sig with "wanna check out my 65 cuda?". Not sure if there is any issue with that, Metalshapes? I wouldnt mind seeing it
"Metalshapes" nailed it though...it really is in a grey area...that twilight zone between early 60's style and later 60's performance. It's an odd car that could easily be built to fit into either era!!! I can't even think of many other cars that ARE that grey! LOL Dogfight IS perhaps the best spot to show it off...but send me a PM with the link to any pics you put up please!?!? Congrats on getting a nice survivor!!!
Couldnt tell you yes or no on the sig line. 'cause I dont know... But you can put O/T cars in your Albums, and you can start a Social Group for O/T cars too.
If it looks anything like this you will be fine: If it looks like this one chances are good everyone on the HAMB will think its gay:
I'd like to see it, even though the 64 thing is the excepted line. They are sure a cool car, as well. I like alot of 65 cars!
My own opinion,if it means anything,it's more what the vehicle is than an exact cutoff date.A stock 62 Chevy station wagon meets the date but is it a traditional hot rod or custom? No ,it's just an old car,and a style that wasn't traditional even back when.My 50 Chevy PU is a beat up old truck with a hot rodded 50's inline engine. Not really custom or hot rod but a push truck or shop hack.Never mind my old Willys Jeep 4x4 stuff, this is not the place for that...But there is a thread on a old truck swapped onto a newer 4x4 frame.....? And there's a thread many pages long on a 60's AM General mail truck, what is traditional about that? Nothing...And a bread truck or two but a few threads on old dump trucks were frowned upon.. But nothing is perfect, the rules can't be policed evenly in every situation, judgement calls made by moderators can never please everyone.. Overall it's good and in the end the many guys who post here have to decide to comment on suspect material or just let it fade away ....
HA I told my wife about "Hemi Under Gl***". She said "that's not in the budget for this build". Not quite "no", but... It's nothing like the second image. It's literally "bone stock". Everyone who's said they'd like to see, I'm planning on sending a PM with pics once I have cleaned it up. It will likely get some new wheels and rubber (nothing against the rallys that are on it). I'm thinking either cragar SS or some Torque Thrusts will look nice. I'm certainly going to keep it true to '65 (in fact, I know that a set of Cragar SS wheels would've been on the market for only 2 years tops when this car came out...). Anyhow, Like I said-I'll send pics to the folks interested and will probably include some shots of it if I set up an album on here. I'm proud of this find, and had a good experience learning about it from the prior owner (who bought it in the late 60s and raised a family while owning it). His daughter sent me an email saying that it was really putting the family at ease knowing that the Barracuda was being fixed up and that my wife and I plan on driving it. I will be taking the prior owner for a ride for sure when I get it road worthy again!
There is an Early A forum on www.forabodiesonly.com. Yes it is a grey area. Lots of folks on here with Falcons, Darts, Valiants, etc. Very cool car. I have a 65 myself.
