  2. No they are not,,,,for years I worked in the driveway or yard.

do what little stuff you can at home if you have something major take it to the shop but its not nessecary. my garage is pretty good size but its full i cant pull another car into it. I pull my tool box outside and work in the driveway, when i need a shop i take it to school it works out great. but not a garage isnt nessecary unless your working in a blizzard or monsoon.

  4. For a fat old middle aged guy like me, garage WITH A/C is a must; but for a young guy, if you can hack the military, boot camp, etc, I think you could do just about anything you put your mind to.

Welding with A/C on seems like an exercise to see how fast you can make the little dial in the electric meter spin. Of course, I don't live in Texas...

  6. I haven't done much welding since winter, I guess I will find out soon enough...

You have to ask the guy who has built a car without one to find the answer to this question. I have and it will never happen again. The wuss factor starts to build after age 30 and you no longer have the need to compete with Arnold Swartzenegger to be accpted.
    I've been wussing for over 33 years. :D :D

My Dad and his buddies used to build sprint cars in the back yard. after wrenching all day they just threw a tarp over the carnage until the next day. It can be done.

Not having a garage is the MAIN reason that I really never finish any of my cars. It sucks! If I finish one then it will just rot in the NM sun... I want a garage to store my finished ones in. I'll probably still work outside..

    I'm collecting stuff to build a 40 X 26 now... aaahhh someday..lol

Rednecksmooth gave you the best advice. Thats how I built a couple of Fords back in 1960 on an Airmans pay,( supplemented by a part time job or two/) Got in good graces with a couple of senior NCO's and they turned me on to a carless homeowner with a 2 car garage. Did some painting and wiring for the owner and was off and runnin'.

  11. It's extremely necessary if you're selfish like me. I want all the noise and mess to myself.

When I was in the Navy, it was 5 bucks a day for a long term 90 day minimum stint in the hobby shop. I did a frame off on my camaro. Not concours but it was pretty nice for my budget. You don't need a shop, just be realistic about time/money constraints while you are in the military. When you get out you are gonna make big bucks and have a nice garage to do whatever just be patient you are surely on the right track!!
