Just like the****le says. I know gassers (pretty sure anyway) were required to run fenders. So did they ever run a similar class fenderless that wasn't altered wheelbase? I'm thinking cars like T's, A's and early 30's here, not later model stuff.
I don't have an old rule book handy but yep, a gasser was a full bodied car with fenders. No fenders or chopped and it became an altered. I think back in the day they had to run hoods to be in the Gas classes too. Gassers were originally engine swap cars like the 52 Ford Vic my stepfather had with a 56 Tbird Special 312 in it that Ran C gas here in the PNW in the 50's. And that car was lowered about three inches all around and not jacked up like the stereotypical gassers we know now.
Rules changed over the years, originally gas classes were street legal cars with engine swaps. They had to be licensed and maintain all the legal equipment, ie: lights, wipers, front brakes etc.. As racers pushed the rules, the rules gradually changed and you began to see glass fron ends, painted on lights, etc. As far as fenderless A's,T's, and 30 era cars, depending on the modifications and year we're talking about they could have run in a number of classes, Street Roadster , Altered, Gas Coupe, etc.
I bumped it so it'd be easy to find. Larry T http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=334715
Thanks, Larry T, that's exactly what I was looking for. Guess I missed it last year when it was posted.
