105 ° here in SE Wis. Worked on a buddies car outside in my driveway on Tues. but since then I've been squirreled away in my garage with a little bitty AC unit and an old hassock fan. The only problem is the damn fan keeps blowing the gas away from my TIG torch.

  4. I said to hell with it and went on a 250 mile Harley ride with grandma on the back, a couple of bloody marys in a bar enjoying the ac and now Im home with the air on.. Remember this boys no one ever had this put on there headstone "Jeez I wish I spent more time at work"..

I get up at 6:00 AM, grab a cup of coffee, watch about 15 minutes of news and head for the garage. I work as long as I can stand it, usually about 11:30 AM. It is hot here in WV.
I took out a six cylinder engine in my `51 F1 and putting in an 8BA. Still hooking everything up as I have time.

Just installed a 5 ton package AC unit in my shop. Still have a little more work on the duct system but the AC works so I can do that in the cool dryer air now. Really makes a difference in how long you can work and what you can get done. Money well spent.

I was trying to thread a bolt all the way down but it was too damn hot in the garage so I went down the the hardware store to buy a bolt,I could not see what I was doing due to the sweat so it was much easier to buy what I needed. Not all was lost since instead of spending 44 dollars for the replacement part I fixed it for 2.04.

I worked in a hot garage for a lot of years. I finaly did the math and it is cheeper to AC the area than to heat it in the winter. It is now 70 degrees in the summer and 65 degrees in the winter.

you guys with refigerated AC in the shop, change the filters way more often than you do in the house. I have been doing lots of painting, grinding, welding in the shop lately and it plugged up the filter so bad that the A coil froze up. Scared the bejesus out of me.......I thought the AC had quit. Let it thaw out overnight, new filter, back to cool air all day today.

Last year I traded out some work on a friends truck for a nice framed hole in my garage wall. A guy at work sold me a window unit for $20.00 and I am a HAPPY camper this summer. Both of those guys are getting Christmas cards from me this year!:D

Yes last night it was about 85 degrees at 10:00PM so I decided to install some Redneck A/C.

I picked up 2 "Squirrel cages" A/C blower motors both 220 volts.

I wanted to mount them up on the wall, my shop is just a metal building with metal wall studs, so i took some scrap, and made these.
no there not CNC'ed or fancy, but they are ajustable right and left. and I will paint them before I hang them.

What can you make with, some old bed frame 2in angle, some 2x4 rack shelving from an old hardware store and a left over piece of handicap railing.

    Godspeed

  14. insulated the floor and cut/installed carpet in the truck. Over a hundred, lots of cutting etc but well worth it. Doesn't sound like an impending explosion now when you go down the road...tim

Up here in MN you have to have good insulation for winter, so with a dehumidifier, I can keep the shop 20 degrees cooler then outside and a lot less humid!! But it was flippin HOT OUTlast week!. Went to a car cruze in Henderson last week and we stayed in the bar the whole time.....Last night at the Mkta Drive -in, it was great, about 87 degrees and the humidity was tolerable.....

Mowed five acres minus buildings and some woods. Washed the quadcab truck and pulled some weeds. Getting ready to head back to Illinois where it is actually warmer. Personally I can't tell the difference than what it is here in the boonies. Even the gators are sweatin.

This year we've had a lot of rain which made the mosquetos fatter and ornery.
It is nicer inside with the AC on but that don't get anything done. But that's the advantage of being retarded!

We're looking at a balmy top of 13° (Celsius) here in Melbourne, Australia today. I might only need one jumper instead of two, I don't remember what it feels like to be hot haha.

You can buy good window AC's for less than $200 for small ones; $500 for larger ones that will cool a double garage easily. Even less on CraigsList. They cost a few bucks to run, but what's a few bucks for a comfortable work place?

  26. I haven't been doing much in the shop this past week due to cleaning up the yard from a sever storm and otherwise being lazy.

This morning I had a few items on my to do list on the sedan and turned on the air because it was 86 degrees inside,,I came back in the house, ate breakfast and had a couple of cups of coffee and went out to get started,,damn it's still hot!

I look a the thermostat and it's now 87,,I soon discover not only did the storm last week with all the lightning not only got our recently purchased big screen TV,DVD player, computer and of all things the clock radio in the bedroom but not it appears it also got the air conditioner in the shop.

I don't know about the rest of you but I have gotten use to being comfortable while working in the shop.

I just opened the doors, turned on the fans and dealt with the heat and because of all the rain lately hundreds of hungry mosquito's that saw me as a meal!:rolleyes: HRP

Hey, I was born in Anderson, SC ;)

I just take many breaks. I like the heat, but humid situations are tough. I take many short showers if really bad. I cool off, then go back at it. My new shop is 56x64, not any window ACs are going to help me

Let me see, put a 160 thremostat in the 66 impala convert... not good enough, ordered a new aluminum three core model, then put led tail lights in the new sockets for the back, checked the timiing with a light and slipped it away until the radiator arrives.

then drove the 62 deville up to wash the blue gunk off of the new whitewalls, found out it has a nasty driveline buzz, so checked that out and have a new carrier bearing coming for it... plus the new 'quiet' duals still have a little too much noise resonance coming through the floor (not very cadillac sounding) so ordered up a pile of dynamat and some exhaust heat wrap to double wrap it from the head to the muffler on both sides, assume that should hush things right up.

Then, fixed the high beam on the stepside shop truck, changed out air cleaners so that it has one that actually SITS on the air horn of the 650 double pumper and since their was room on the threaded rod and under the hood, stacked two elements on the chrome 14" unit for that extra air capacity look, pulled the supremes off, cleaned, prepped and undercoated all four wheel well areas, cleaned the drums off and painted them with red caliper paint as well as cleaned and painted the front calipers.. (too much work for the look.. wish I would have painted them black now)..

Fixed the horn button on a truck, charged up the battery and fired up the 56 panhead to keep it oiled, played with the young mr trailer guy... two year olds have way too much energy, blew about $150 at the Oreilly's in cash (they love me there), picked up a 24 pack of good old Coors in the GOLD can and am hitting my third can in the shop.. but it's hot and i am thinking of how I can lure baby boy into the air conditioned house...

OH! And we went for a ride on the gold cart, in the caddy, in the impala convertible, the shop truck, the escalade and on a lawnmower.... i don't know about the boy, but DAD is tired.

    Have a good night guys!

lower temp stats don't do anything except prolong the inevitable And keep your oil cooler during warm up ) . . now a nice big radiator and you are doing something. You sound like me, going from project to project :)

  30. Of all the places it gets hot as hades, Oklahoma is one of them! I usually wear shorts, and keep a wet bandanna around my neck - and keep several fans going in the work direction. Don't forget the water!!!
Still better than the cold I think!
