so whats everyone think about, widening the rear fenders on a 54 chevy truck to fit some bigger whells and tires just because i got a good deal on them? it only needs a 1"? worth it? or just trade the wheels and tires to a friend for posiiable the right ones? {mans those 17"smoothis sure look cool!! haha} just a polish guy looking for feed back!! thanks!
If you're only going to gain 1 inch I don't think it's worth it. You might be able to put fatter tires under it by increasing your back space on the wheels. Measure the depth from the inside of the tire to the spring and compare that to what's available and go from there.
In the 70's that was the standard thing to do to get fat tires to clear as very few people thought to narrow an axle. Depending on what rear end you have you might be better off finding a rear end that is a couple of inches narrower. No body work and it should only take a few hours to do.
I would change the rims or just get a skinner tire . The back space works the easiest if you want wide tires . Try a Camaro rear .
Personally, that's the kind of detail that makes a vehicle for me. Everyone else says "only an inch", I say the mark of a well done modification is you can hardly tell. Good luck!
