Who ya tryin' to impress ?? BUILD WHAT YOU WANT or CAN afford. Gl*** is cheaper (usually) than steel, with or without bodywork.

My first hot rod was a '32 Ford 3 window Coupe. I loved my car but always yearned for a steel car. I sold the '32 after 6 years but maybe some day, I'll win the lottery and get a steel '32. Would I own another fibergl*** rod, you bet.

Go for it! Build it, and drive it. Have fun. It will be a labor of love. From a consequentialist standpoint anything is acceptable if it leads to a successful result and good outcome.

Lucky enough to have one of each, gl*** first (money), lucked out on the second (still building). Love them both. Do what you can with your budget and have fun man.

Take the time to look at the different gl*** bodies. I mean REALLY study the lines, how the inner door frame fits the opening, how it is braced, pinholes that will turn into chasms:( Save yourself a lot of time just trying to get it to look right. Can't tell you the hours I have spent on mine and I guess I am glad I haven't kept track of them either......Dennis D

Why would you ***ume that I am a big fan of the Rebel Reaper Willys? What have I said in ANY of my posts that could POSSIBLY lead you to that conclusion??!!

  9. I'm wasn't saying that you were a fan. I was just making a statement to your statement about 'gl*** cars and fake patina. The Rebel Reaper is a prime example of a 'gl*** car that was made to look like a real steel body with patina.

I prefer steel over fibergl*** hands down, but you have to do what fits your budget.
Not a fan at all of fake patina, no matter what the body is made of!

If your goal was to build, I’d say set aside the ‘33 dream car for a while and get yourself a far more affordable Model A. You’d learn skills that will serve you well when you eventually get that ‘33, and end up with something that was readily marketable.

But it sounds like your priority is to get on the road in your dream car, join other hot-rodders and have some fun. Which is fine. In that case, a gl***-body car is probably your fastest and most affordable route. If it makes you happy, go for it. Just be prepared to shrug off the gl*** vs. steel debate whenever it comes up.

other than possibly a T bucket I could never see myself building a gl*** car. I like taking something old and fixing it, not building something new, that looks like something old.

I like 34 Fords. I'd rather have a steel one in the shop in pieces than a running gl*** one of equal value..
