I can get this 60 Galaxy 500 for 100.00 it will cost close to that to get it home. She is a rust bucket. I'm a ****er for the rear end on these cars. It has the 352 v8 with a 3 speed and overdrive. I'm sure it's stuck. The floor pans are totally gone. What is your alls thoughts?

if its a 9 inch rear end it is worth it just for that. Otherwise it would have to be a labor of love.

Well, I don't know where you're located, but it would bring about $250 for s**** around my area. So I'd pop for it. Take all of the cool stuff off, cut the rear off and hang it on the side of your garage, and then haul the rest away

3 speed is likely a T85 OD..... worth more than the rear axle

Parts id parts and some have to die so others can live. To me that particular car isn't worth trying to fix as it just needs too much rust repair but I see a lot of parts that you can probably sell even before you remove them or right after you remove them to make sure that they will clean up right and don't have hidden issues including tail lights, headlight trim and other fru fru. Then you have the engine, trans and rear and the trans and what should be a nine inch have to be worth the 200 if you just keep them.

Does anything move on it, still? It would sure be fun to see if it can be made to operate again...but it might be too far gone?

If you have a way to deal with parting it out, then it might be worth it. If you just like collecting old cars, it might be worth it. If you're trying to get rich off it, no.

It's certainly worth more than $200 in parts. It all depends if you are interested in doing that.

My Dad had one when I was a kid. We used those fins as picnic tables when we traveled. Cut it off behind the doors and you've got a picnic table.

Get it running, do one of those U-toob videos as you progress with the car. Make money from the video. ;)

HELL YES. Even the steel rims are getting hard to find...and probably worth $100.

Yea, pretty sure I would drag about any old complete American car home for $200 total investment.

These are cool cars, this one looks too far gone to try to resurrect (maybe if it was a Starliner, but not a Fairlane 4 door post). That said, for that price, this thing would part out really, really well. If you've got the space and time to deal with it, you could make yourself some nice money and also save a lot of good usable parts that will be lost if this thing ends up getting s****ped. More pieces saved and moved on to new homes is good for the hobby and good for a profit.

All of the moldings and dash pieces would sell, not to mention the stickshift stuff, that's a valuable bellhousing, 9" rear, tons of small stuff. I'd do it for sure.

  15. If you don't do it someone else will. i like the idea about stripping the good trim off. cut the rears section off and hang on the wall.

If you have room to store it, $200 for the running gear sounds pretty good. Rebuild the mechanicals at your own pace and hunt for a Starliner with a solid body that could use an upgrade to a V8 T85od. You would also have extra trim, dash pieces, handles and other hard to find odds and ends.

  18. I'd buy it in a heartbeat just for the parts. '60 Ford trim bits are expensive and hard to find.

This brings to mind the thread about those of us who collect old bolts. This car would provide a nice bunch of them in addition to the 9".

In this day and age any old car that is complete is worth the effort for a couple hundred bucks.
I like Squirrel's idea of just trying to make it operable again as it is.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat and like Squirrel, I think it would be fun to see if I could get it to start/run. (Did the owner say why it was parked? Blown engine or clutch or Grandpa simply quit driving?)

Since the floors are gone and there's likely a ton of work to get it operating and $$$ to go through the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, I'd be really tempted to:
    • Pull the 352, T-85, 9 inch and stash them for a future project
    • Though not HAMB friendly, Instead of stripping/junking the rest of the car, I'd buy a Crown Vic cop car, trash the Vic body and drop the '60 body on the Vic floor/ch***is. Drive it to work as is. Steelies with poverty caps and fresh set of el cheapo black walls. Be a fun tire smoker/freeway bomber.
While rusty as hell, the 60 body is otherwise straight, complete and the gl*** looks good.
My Dad worked at Ford on the ***embly line, inspecting the 60's and told me they had a lot of fitment issues. One being the trunks would not seal out water. Told of stories of guys being closed inside the trunk with flashlights trying to discover where the water intrusion emanated from while it traveled through the water test.
