A guy could have half of that for a flathead like that one but the rest of it sure doesn't add up for the rest of that price. I've never personally spent that much to build a whole car.

No, you own a $26K Model A, that took $60k to build.

    I stand corrected. :)

  6. I could see someone spending that kind of money to create this body less project..I can't see anyone recouping that kind of money when they bale from it though.
    Un-realistic..and a lot too "pricey".
In the eyes of the creator, I'm sure it is a perfect example of his creation.
Matching up his perfect idea of a project, and someone elses, especially willing to spend that kind of money, would have to be an extremely low number.
I don't see it happening.. even at half that amount, he may be sitting on it for awhile.

Anyone care to take a stab at what shop rates are in CA? In 2015 I was in a shop that got $135/hr and the place was full of work. For the prices I see just for components these days he's not far off and it's sort of ready to go. I'd bet a Model A inner tube someone that can't weld/wire/plumb/paint buys it then hauls it to some shop (at $100+/hr) and gets his dream car while he's busy writing code or some shit like that. Thinking it through, this gets a "buyer builder" into a car for a decent starting price. Even at my bargain rates you'd be deeper into it than that trying to "get there from here." The fact he chose an A frame vs a Deuce? Who knows, they all build em so there's a market for it. It's no smokin gotta-have-it deal but it's far from outrageous.

Maybe he's selling the A frame so he can buy a 32 frame and a SBC to put under whatever body is in the garage?

This guy is in deep on this project. With the flathead engine I’m guessing he has at least that much in it, and maybe more. This is why this hobby is so costly today. I would venture to guess he won’t get that out of it, maybe half

Lol I feel like the guys who post the “holy cow this is priced high” threads should meet all the guys who post the “holy cow the market is soft” threads .

Yes, he does. OTOH, he says it's a 326 cu in motor, but 3.375 x 4.25 in my calculations comes out to 304 so who knows?

So did he build the chassis and motor. Or did he buy a car and kept the body and is selling the rest.

True it is a lot more money than most of us home builders would want to tie up in it but I'd bet dollars to donuts that a few of the guys on here with Hot flatheads in Aftermarket A chassis have that or more tied up in them. For the guy who would have to have a shop build it for him it might be a pretty decent deal and you can figure that that is the starting price and cash greenies and no bs speak big. You can figure that there are a few guys who have a nice A body that they are just putting the finishing touches on before having a chassis built that might be all over that.

Seems expensive to me, but I'm new. I just paid my machinist CAN$2.4K, to machine and assemble a short block using mostly my parts, except they got the rod/crank bearings and had the crank reground by another shop. I can easily see that engine approaching $5K plus if you had someone build it for you.

I built a 286” flattie and did all of the porting and assembly myself. $3400 at the machine shop. $5,000 in parts ($2,000 for just the stroker kit, $1,000 for dual Strombergs, $750 cam and lifters, etc.). Adds up fast. If you pay someone to do all the porting and assembly $12-$15,000 in that motor. $12k for the chassis. So he probably has $35k in that setup. Said to say but it’s probably only worth half of his investment for resale.

As an example, I bought a built 425 Buick Nailhead, $15,000 in receipts never been started and I gave $7k for it.

    Where's the body?

We all know he's trying to recoup the $28k he paid for the finished A he wants to put on a '32 chassis. I surprised he's selling it with the grille!
