I follow Ebay alot looking for a cheap 28-31 Ford body , and have noticed a huge amount of model A's going on the cheap lately. Is this a trend, or what???? Seems like prices are comming into check again, or are that many people hurting for $$$$$.

I agree i believe it is the economy. I just bought one on ebay. The price was descent and the body was in really good condition.

  5. Lots of people loosing their houses in southern California, and that is definately showing up in the prices of projects out here. I am also seeing more projects stay on the market a longer time......

I don't think its as much of the economy that is affecting the prices as it is just that so many people in the past few years started buying up all the the projects with the intent of building rat rods and now are coming to the realization that they have no abilities and are looking to dump them and so the market is getting flooded. Its the same way with bikes right now, everyone went OCC and Jesse James crazy and bought bikes or bike projects and now that the newness has worn off they don't want them anymore.

I know a friend just bought a 30 sedan off ebay for 250 bucks, and last year a door brought that. Also noticed cars I see in our classifieds are showing up on ebay with less than stellar results. I hope all the HAMBers make it thru this crunch OK.

  8. I think it's the economy ,and the "toy" and "projects" are the first to go. I'm seeing a lot of shit for sale ,that you usually don't see...
And we aren't gettin any younger..

I do a lot of selling on eBay and I have noticed lately that parts seem to do just fine like always (sometimes really bringing in some nice prices for me) but project cars are nearly impossible to give away.

That leads me to believe that there are still a ton of hot rodders and restorers out there building cars, but way less looking for additional projects to take on. Makes it VERY tempting to part out cars that were otherwise considered "too nice" to part out.

On an unrelated side note, eBay's "one click bid" is total bullshit. You still get redirected to the "confirm your bid" page just like always. I just lost out on a grille guard that I really wanted because I thought the "one click bid" feature meant you only had to click once to put in a bid. Gee, how could I have come to that conclusion? Fuck. I really should have bid a couple seconds earlier, I was hoping to snipe a deal at the last second. That'll teach me.

Seem like alot of the A's I am looking at have decent bodies with untouched frames. I think alot of people got into the "rat rod" craze and realized they were over their head. Definately a buyers market right now.

I just bought "something" for about half of what should have been the going price. More details on Monday when I let the cat outta the bag.:D

Also, I noticed complete, running driving streetrods with for sale prices ALOT less then normal last weekend at the NSRA Knoxville, TN event.

I agree I think it's the economy. People are selling anything they can to get by, especially those hurt in the sub-prime mortgage problem. Those who can afford to keep their toys and projects will, others will let them go. You might actually see quite a few good buys over the next 2 or 3 years or until the economy gets back on track.

I have been keeping an eye out for a solid coupe body (27-31) for a future build. would be nice if prices have stablized or dropped some. but I agree I see alot of stuff not meeting reserves.

    :)

I do not believe the economy is that BAD ...
I do believe that the news media is trying to make it worse than it is ... for the upcoming election in November.

I have a real estate license ... and the figures on house foreclosures are way distorted. In this nation one out of every 192 house is in foreclosure. That's less than one per cent

Has not hit the 32's yet ... this one is @ 47 grand and not make the reserve yet on eveil bay.

you guys are lucky at the jefferson swap meet a couple weeks ago everything was pricey i used to go to that swap a few years ago (which puts me at about 18 or 19) and buy camaros and such just to beat for a few months then sell for what i had into them. that was not the case this year, it seemed every one in wisconsin who knew where an old car was that had been sitting in the woods for years had pulled it out and threw a $2000 price tag on it with a sign that said "great rat project" and alot of the parts seemed to be the same way.

I walk 3-4 miles per day in a 1 mile radius of my home. I live in an average neighborhood with 3 and 4 bedroom brick ranch houses. LOTS of house for sale/rent in my area. I always take those flyers that the realtors have on the pole or I call to find out the asking price. The prices on these houses have dropped $100,000 dollars over the last 4 years. Yes, thats right, the houses in my neighboorhood were selling for $225,000 to $250,00 and are now going for $130,00 or alittle more. One I've been passing nightly is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, etc and they are asking $129,000 and it's empty. I so want to buy it and stick tenants in it BUT I don't have the guts.

Not as bad in your area maybe BUT dreadful in the Metro Detroit area.

  19. maybe its people are just straped for cash

  20. You can't base it on eBay prices, because eBay is going out of their way to completely f--- up the site. I've watched a steady downturn in hits and bids across the board on completely unrelated items. People in England are complaining things aren't doing as well there. In Australia, they're fighting being forced to only accept Paypal for payments. Only if you're in China is it going great. Well, unless you got wiped out in the earthquake.

Seriously, they've changed the way the default search works. It's called Best Match, and if you go in and you want say.. a Beach Boys CD? In your results you may get beach towels, beach chairs, boys shorts, suntan lotion... and maybe a CD or two. The times they end on the first page will vary from ending in a few minutes to just listed for 10 days, and odds are most of them will be from big sellers with hundreds of items going.

As a result people just don't find the stuff to bid on it. Then when they do bid they find every bidder's user ID is hidden behind a letter-asterisk thing (F***4) so you can't tell if you're bidding against someone real, or a shill for the seller. So they don't bid very much if at all.

When it comes to the actual stuff, my prices are only going up, to reflect the price of gas and the price of scrap metal - but you just won't find it on eBay much longer.

    I definitely see this.
    Baggers replaced choppers.
Trend to trend to trend to trend...

  23. duece roadster;
houses are still selling here, but a lot have lost jobs to Mexico or overseas..Just heard a GM tranny plant is dumping a complete shift, as did Ford up here.. Sterling (big rigs) has already dumped a shift.. If your building Japanese cars or parts ,you might still be working, but nort American cars have gone for a crap up here.
Guy next door just lost his job in a vynl siding plant..they close the doors and moved...
    yep, economy is just wonderful..

pass me some cheap fuel ,will ya?

I agree with Deuce for the most part. Detroit and most of California have been in the news constantly for prices dropping and forclosures. California's is due to massive real estate price inflation for the last 10 years and Detroits is probably due to the changing auto industry with lots of outsourcing and contract re-negotiations going on.

So not a very good indicator to judge by what's going on in those two places. But on the other hand, how much a 32 Ford sells for isn't a good indicator either, because they seem to follow their own set of rules.

I have WAY more cars than I need right now and the parts sales are still doing OK so no complaints from me. Savvy rodders are going to buy up the good deals now while they're around and have a lifetime supply of projects for the future.

5 years from now I'd REALLY like to re-open this discussion so we can see where the prices of musclecars and buildable hot rod bodies goes. I'll bet my money that the prices are only going to go up.

Yeah, people are having to just GIVE stuff away, so someone give me a Hilborn injector for my 392. I'll cover shipping to keep you from stubbing your toe on it. :D

    Denise,

If you have the capital to buy it, buy all means do it. It is still pretty hard to screw yourself in real estate. I am a landlord & it was the best thing I decided to become since an overnight sensation.

The tax benefits to owning leaseable property is outstanding.

Don't be afraid. Make a "Buyers Offer" and see where it heads. Once you do it the first time it becomes easier and easier as you learn the ins & outs of real estate acquisitions.

Go for it & Good Luck.

Its the auto plants here. Delphi is in bankruptcy and American Axle went on strike shutting down the GM plants with no parts. We have a International Harvester plant that laid off a bunch of people along with Delphi. It hits home to every little shop supplying them. Theres a link on here to an auction coming up at one plant.
The guy next to my brother had a plumbing business and he killed himself. He was losing his house and his business was going under. My friend lost his job after thirteen years working for GM, he found another one and lost it.
Its like already said theres twenty people at every interview. Food is going up and gas is rocketed up. Its peachy :)

  30. Around here folks are dumping boats, campers and 4X4's. I dont care how cool people TRY to act right now re: the economy, folks are worried.
If I had the money to spend, I'd be watching for a roadster project right now.
