is it possible? 2x2s on a 2x4 manifold?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by begborrowandsteel, Jul 18, 2005.

  1. I was wondering if it was possible to mount square bore 2brl carbs on a 2x4 manifold, obviosly you would have to seal the manifold's extra two holes well but would the carbs fit, and how well would it flow?

it would probably flow pretty well,if you consider that most roundy-round racers that are in the 2 bbl. cl*** use a 4 bbl. manifold with a 2-4 adaptor.

i heard there were attempts to cast up a good flowing 2 bbl. manifold, but they never worked as good as the other system.
of course,if you wanna run a 2x2,it's strictly for how it looks, just about any single 4 bbl. is gonna work better and give you better mileage and drivability.

  3. I sold an aluminum Wieand SBC 2x4 intake on eBay last fall that I know for sure when I got it about 10 years ago was set up that way. They used a couple of aluminum adapter/blockoff plates for the 2-barrels (I think it took 2GC's). But I took one off for some reason, so when I sold it I took the other one off. Sits in the garage, no clue if it's homemade or what. I can post a pic if you want to see it, certainly would be no big deal for a fab guy to make one.

As to how it ran, good question. Didn't look to me like it ever made it on an engine -

I am currently running two 2GC's on an early offy intake. I purchased the carbs and the 2brlx4brl adapters at swapmeets. I just put the 4brl side down and was able to find the proper gaskets at the local parts store. These particular adapters will allow you to run holley and the large base rochesters as well. The set-up is on a stock 69' chev. 255hp. 350 with a 350 turbo and 331 rear gear in a 26' Modified. The carbs are hooked together direct and there is no low-end bog. It starts easy, idles fine. is frendly in heavy traffic and lights the tires. We cruised it all weekend at GG Indy without any significant "loading-up" problems. I'm running the dome chrome air-cleaners, cal custom finned valve covers and it all looks traditional. I'll be playing with it at the HAMB Drags this year. Sam

I can't post pictures. My files are too large. I tried to send you a pm but couldn't attach the photos that way either. Send me an e-mail. I'll try to attach the photos on a reply. Sam

  8. SamIyam did a double two barrel intake for an SBC.

The manifold and how to do it were posted here a while back.

The basics were, an aluminum intake - I think it was a factory aluminum single four barrel - mill the top off, weld an adapter plate on and when he was done it looked like factory.

Which is to say, very good.
