Hi all I have 2 questions to start with. I want to run a 350 chev on an original 28 A frame with original front suspension. Do i need to box the frame to run the 350 or is it just nice to have it boxed? Also will the original front suspension be strong enough to take the 350?? I see a lot of guys use the 40 ford front end. is it because it is stronger? any info would be great Thanks
if you haven't did an intro you better before the intro police get you.Just general who you are ,what you do,what your car interests are.If you've done an intro ignore me...
you need to box it.. the torque difference of a 350 and a banger is huge. running the stock front suspension is fine but you will need to split the wishbones since its going to be open driveline. i believe, the "40 ford front end" would be 40 front brakes - they are hydraulic as opposed to the Model A's mechanical brakes. although you could run a '40 front suspension setup.
I will be attempting to put the 75 nova front disks on the A spindles some how? So i can have juice brakes up front also. I figure all I need is to make the right bracket and i can make anything fit. I do want to try and some how stick with the original stud pattern, so i can fit some of those cool ass 21inch wires up front. anyone got any ideas? i dont have cash to splash around and 40 ford front stuff is rarer then rocking horse shit in these parts. any help would be great. and this is the best page about rods that ever there was. (I have already learned a lot. thanks)
I would definately box the frame. To put juice brakes on your axle, find spindles from 37-48 and a brake setup from a 39-48. Bolt on. This would work well, and look much better than disks. The front wishbone will have to be split too (for using the later tranny/open driveshaft), but it looks better split anyway Will a model a rear axle (converted to open) hold up to a 350? I kinda doubt it, but I dont know.
dunno about the tall wires buddy.. i'd suggest running at least a 16" mid 30's wire or preferably kelseys.. Again, even a stock 350 has a drastic torque difference... the wires aren't that strong and the skinny rubber is not going to give much traction... there are adapters that will allow you to use them with modern patterns if you are so inclined. As far as the brakes.. you can buy some cheapo spindle sets that will allow the GM calipers.. try tperformance.com... I wouldn't rule out the 40 fore brakes if you would like to go that way.. I found my backing plates and drums on ebay for 50 bucks and put together the hardware, shoes, and cylinders for another 100 from little dearborne..
thanks for the advice the boxing of the chassis will be the easy part. finding old parts from 37-48 fords here in Hungary is the tricky part. I went to a swap meet on the weekend here in Budapest and there were absolutely NO american parts on the tables. You guys have it pretty sweet in the states. but i guess it is still rare as everyone wants it.
perhaps there is a little confusion in the air this is the look i am after minus the sweet front brakes got this from a uk site
Ebay will likely be your best bet to find the spindles/brakes, considering your location. just FYI, 39 was the first year for juice brakes, but 37 and on spindles will work.
Budapest? That's like far away and shit, do you guys have electricity and indoor plumbing? Well I guess you have electricity otherwise you wouldn't be on a computer, unless it was like a wood burning one. But yeah, I'd box that frame, you never know when you might have to race around a donkey cart.
I once got Hungary for some Turkey, but it had too much Greece. So I broke the China. How many forints does an A coupe cost in Budapest?
All Hungarians hate that old joke I am impressed you know of forints. but i bought the tudor in the Czech republic (and it is an original right hand drive) for 55,000 koruna, about 440,000Ft that is about $USD 2,600. The guy i got it from said it is one of only 5 in the country.
Jesus Nad, you crack me up...i spit my Big Mac all over my desk here at work...Nice one.. OH, welcome to the Hamb...and yes Ebay is your best place for parts. Unless they are here...check the HAMB classifieds.
Very cool! That tudor will make a nice "goulash." You should put some "Magyar" wheels on it... maybe call it Zsa Zsa ... Okay, no more Hungarian jokes. Welcome aboard the HAMB.
this is the look i am after minus the sweet front brakes Honestly, those are the only brakes that will fit. Gotta get those. I think they were made right here in Michigan. Hop on over and we'll go look for a set!
monaroau.....Bluebear is a guy who worked in a hotrod shop on a stupid American T.V. show. He got fired because he refused to box the frame on his Model A. His boss was a prick....
Seriously my Hungarian hot rodding brother, you've got balls man, I hope your dreams come true. I'd give you parts to help you along. Welcome. Hey Zenor, you know way too much shit, you might be a nerd.
i was able to find a used complete set of '39 juice brakes for way cheaper than '40+....only thing about '39 drums is it's the wide 5 pattern, but i was planning on using the wide 5 wheels anyway. but i believe the drums are interchangable. i also heard that you can use f-250 backing plates with '37-'40+ drums for the rear, is this true??
440,000ft to 2,600USD? Now theres an exchange rate I can appreciate. You've got some strong ideas to try to find parts like that over there. I wish that shipping didnt cost so damn much or I would gladly help you out.
