The mesh/egg-crate looking metal that is in the hood of a '60-'61 GMC, is it structural? I'm thinking of cutting mine out and doing a custom treatment, but I didn't want to remove it and have the hood warp or something.

    Thanks.

  2. never messed with one, don't know for sure....but i doubt it's structural

  3. The way the hood is designed I highly doubt that the grid work is structural, start cutting! HRP

  5. Make sure you keep the surround to use for your Kustom treatment.

Cut away if you want , but I would not lose the uniqueness of you GMC!

  7. i should clarify.....i don't believe those little grilles are structural , but the opening itself may add strength . probably a rolled lip formed on the sheetmetal , that would add strength

Yeah, I was just planning on taking out the mesh part only ... leaving the surround in there.

I have picked up a 1962 Chevy Grille for it (they're my favorite) and my plan was to take out the bars from the original Chevy Grille, and remove the mesh from the GMC hood, and then build a custom flat bar style insert for both the hood and the Chevy Grille to tie them together.
