Another of one of those "What it's worth" posts. A friend of mine is looking at a '52 willys 4 door. He wants to make this an economy d.d. build From what I can see, This little ****er is 99% complete and very clean. I was unable to open the doors to look under seats, but, From the outside the floors look real solid. I saw no rust at all. The only thing I see missing are the reverse light lenses. The stainless is very nice and I found no body damage. It has the factory paint that is oxidized but looks semi-saveable. The tail lights are there but showing their age. It was driven into a garage in 1976 and has not been driven since. HAs keys and ***le. .. I know nothing about these cars. SOOOOOOOO.. Whats it worth?? Thanks in advance.. Sorry about the way the pictures loaded. Camera phone ****.
I'd call it worth $2500 being almost complete and a clean ***le is a huge bonus. See if you can post more pix of the prize. Bob
The owner said '52. It is badged as a Willys Custom. I tried to look it up and found nothing. However, I looked at '52 WILLYS. I'll try "55. Thanks.
55 is a Nice car.. the only year with that grill prior to the demize of Willys/Kaiser.. the car looks pretty nice from the pictures..
It's probably only worth $50 or $60. Tell you what .... I'd hate to see your friend make a mistake, so I'll go check the car out. Please send me the address where the car is and owner's name and phone number.
Driveway. He helped pull it out of the garage it was dwelling in since '76. I had my hands all over it today.. Amazingly straight.
Not really my cup of tea. I would have to look at as a "flip". As I stated before. I know nothing about these cars or their value.
They are unibody and even though very rare are not worth alot. Pull up the floor mat and check for rust, next go underneath and check the floor- rocker panel area for rust. You will see a stamped steel structure that runs parrell to the rocker panel; this along with the rocker is the main structure of the car and if rusty will take some doing to repair properly. They are light and economical and are a decent drivig car for there time when in good condition.
Since your objective is to flip it, I would back out of this one (not a huge demand/highly sought after car). Stick with the popular cars for flipping, encomp***es a larger group of potential buyers..keeping your risk, to a minimum and your turn around to a maximum. Lots of good deals out there, with a lot more appeal to the m***es.
Let me know if your friend doesn't want it - a friend is selling off some of his (mostly O/T) cars and he might want to buy it. (I'm broke and tend to live vicariously through the stuff he buys! )
I'd say no. for a more door off brand I wound't go more than $1500 especially if you're going to flip it.
Those things seem to have a hard core following who tend to own several of them so it is most likely worth the 2500 if the floors and structure sheet metal are/is good. It may not be worth 2500 if he is planning on an engine swap though.
What else would 2500.00 buy you for an economy car? An import with a zillion mile son it? A clapped out older small pickup? An old VW? I don;t see how you could go wrong...plus he will get a lot of people telling him "nice 55 chev!!" or "I had a Dodge just like that"
If the man wants a 55 Willys 4dr and it is as rust free as you say...then HELL YES it's worth 2500. They aren't exactly parked on every other street corner. I don't care for the car but if I did I'd jump on a rust free example at that price.
OK. Told my friend about the Willys and his response was, "Is that all you do when you're home instead of cleaning your house?" That's the last time I EVER tell him about any cool cars I find. Hope your friend enjoys his Willys.
It is not my intention to flip it. That was in response to a question as to weather it was worth 2500 to me. This is for a friend that wants to build an econo-cruiser out of it. I was just inquiring as to the vehicles worth for someone that would keep the car. I found no rust in the floor. Still waiting for the keys to show up to inspect the inside of the trunk and such.. Thanks for all the input so far. The lil car is sort of growing on me the more I look at it.
sorry I must have misread a post somewhere--I thought you were buying for resale. if it's a good solid car, and not bad looking. If the more-door body doesn't bother you go for it. personally, there are very few 4 door's I'd buy--I just don't see a long term ROI and I don't really like them--but that's me--and opinions are like ****'s--everybody's got one. for me still not a $2500 car, but probably fair you you plan to hang onto it for a while.
