Okay, this hopefully is simple. I need to replace some radiator hose couplings. The new ones are made of silicone rubber. Can I use White Lithium Grease to ease them onto the metal outlets without affecting the rubber? Thanks.

I would use silicone grease but I've never seen lithium hurt rubber.

Lithium is just the type of thickener used to hold the oil in suspension to form the grease. Any danger to the silicone rubber would come from the petroleum oil in the grease, not from the lithium thickener (A typical grease consists of about 80 - 90% oil). However, according to this chart, silicone rubber has good resistance to mineral oils, so I wouldn't think it would be a problem.

I always spray my hoses with carb cleaner and they slide right on. No messy grease to worry about

Dont use anything that remains in place like grease or oil. Lube silicone (and any other rubber) hoses with liquid soap.

I have used dish soap on stubborn things. It is harmless on most things.
