The new Peter Vincent book HOT ROD GARAGES is a must have Christmas gift with a few HAMB members garages featured. Pete Eastwood has an Ed Winfield race car in mid build featured. Just wondering if it has the original Winfield two up two down race motor or if it is an all new clone. Great looking project, one of the most famous T powered racers. :)

THANKS! I'll have to find a copy of Hop Up. The hobby needs to come up with a proper term for historic race cars that are clones built around original race engines. i know of at least a half dozen. I'd much rather watch an old race car engine fly by in a recreated car that see it run on a stand. :D

Thanks Daddyo! I should pay closer attention to the Monthly Banger Meet posts, totally missed that one. Merry Christmas! Bob

Never seen the insides of the engine before. Quite amazing.

Does the recreation have a 2 up 2 down crank?

Yeah i know it's the original engine with a brand new crank but i'd like to know if it's a 2up 2down. Taking into consideration the cars/engines historical significance, i have a feeling it would be built as per original but just to sooth my curiosity i need an answer as i can't find any other info on the recreation.

  8. Speaking out of total ignorance here...

How much would it cost to have a crankshaft cut? I have a spare '28 Chevrolet block that I'd like to have some fun with (unless I can find a good '25)... :D

I be guessing, but I'd have to say somewhere between $2,500 and $4,000.

I've heard quotes of $2,800 for a billet 5 main Model A crank.

I think the T speedster pictured now belongs to Don Small and lives in Prescott Az. I saw it this fall and got to hear it run. It was interesting to watch him start it. The weather was cool and he had to block a front wheel to keep the thing from taking off in its own. It was cool. He commented that it was a PWood project.

  12. ... guess I'll just admire the craftsmanship... :D

Pete Eastwood has done so many cool projects you almost forget he was with Pete and Jakes in the early years. A very cool hot rodder who has done some vintage bikes along the way.
