I inhereted my Granfathers 1964 belvedere a couple of years ago after my dad realized that it shouldnt be driven by a teenaged kid. It was running fine until my stupid nephew ran it without water and cracked the block. my Grandfather took alot of pride in telling people it was not restored, as a matter of fact, he wrote it on the visors with a bick pen "NOT RESTORED". We still have the original window sticker that he got with the cars when he bought it. It came with a 318 and 3 on the tree. i just put another 318 in it with an automatic tranny (i know it was a mistake) switch tranny because we coulnt find the correct flywheel. I really like working on cars, but I just cant get into this Belvedere. Its got alot of rust since it was in new jersey and i guess they put salt on the roads. the car was also stored out doors for several years. I rebuilt a 67 Camaro RS and it was alot of fun. I also have been learning paint and body work from a local hot rod builder. So its not like I cant do it. I guess what I'm looking for is a little encouragement or maybe even knowing what it could be worth after I'm done. maybe some guidance in paint shcemes or ideas that would make the car more appealing to me and also a head turner.
Your Belvedere is really worth restoring. Not a bunch of them out there. Here's a link to a bunch of 64's. Lots of pics and tips in here. http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/welcome.html
Redo it man. There are plenty of mopar boards out there for advice. Www.forbbodiesonly.com Www.moparts.org .
Dang straight it is worth the effort. One of the iconic cars of the doorslammer era. Refrigerator white with bench seat, warmed over 318, beefed up Torqueflight transmission, and a set of unpolished mags. OK, you're done. Do it. You won't regret it. It's gonna cost more money than you figure, but seeing it's Granddaddy's old ride, he'll be right there with you on cruise night, riding shotgun. Do it.
On second thought, naw, don't do it. You'd probably hate the car.... Stick out like a sore thumb there on the racetrack. No way to have any fun with that old set of wheels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTdwZLrstPk&feature=related Terrible cars, just awful. They'd laugh at you on cruise night. Yup, you wouldn't want to restore one of these.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXbkudowWLE
Oh God, hell yes! If ever there was a car to restore the bel'ie would be the one! If it's trashed and you're going to be starting from scratch. Throw a monster under the hood and have some fun with it. Too bad the numbers matching block is dead. That being the case, beef it! Welcome from Mopar Lover Wayne

You got to do it and keep the car. You have family history there. It will cost you more time and money than you expect, but take your time. it will be worth. I bet in the end it will be priceless to you.
Any old car is worth rebuilding if it's that solid and you like it. Add bonus points because of the family connection. You'll see 10 '64 Impalas and Galaxies for every '64 Belvedere you see, so it will get a lot of attention if you make it nice.
