My '48 Fleetline was 'clipped by the previous owner by swapping in a Chevelle/Malibu frontend so that he could get a V8 and power brakes. However, I've been looking at the way the body is mounted now, and I'm not sure it's "correct". While this is a traditional rod, I'd like to be safe. The inner fenders are cut away to make room for the a-arms, and the firewall is almost 6" away from the framerails where they disappear under the body. There are sections of c-channel bolted to the firewall, bent at a 90* angle, and bolted to the framerail. The remainder of the frame looks okay except where he cut off the rear since he shaved the rear bumper. The springs have blocks in them to keep the body off of the front wheels. Any input would be appreciated. I'm looking for a stock frame so I can make sure everything is the way it's supposed to be - the old "if you want it done right, do it yourself" theory. I hope this wasn't too much for a first post, but any help is great.
Yeah, I plan on taking pics anyways to post what I got. I'll snap some of the affected areas so you can see.
It drives fine. The steering is wayyyy to cushy for my taste, but it doesn't pull while braking/driving, and it corners like a '48, so it's fine there. My main concern is a) the safety of attaching the body like that, and b) the overall "look" of the car; it bothers me that it's like that. However, if it's supposed to be like that, it won't bother me anymore.
