I dropped my clutch plate while trying to install it and damaged it, It is from a toploader 4 speed out of a 65 falcon. My question is is there a difference between clutch plates when it comes to high performance or OEM? I'm going to have to replace it so If there are better ones out there I might as well go with it instead of the original, and if there is a difference what can i expect to gain from getting a better one besides longevity? Also my fly wheel is pretty gummed up from old oil (i guess) can i have this thing turned or do i need to replace it? thanks

If there are no major heat cracks in the flywheel it can be turned. If you were replacing the major clutch components (disc, pressure plate) you'd want to do that to give the new disc something to wear in against.

You can replace just the disc as long as everything else is unsed and new. Just get make sure it's the same diameter and spline count. For a toploader out of a Falcon, I'm guessing you've got the 1 1/16" x 10 spline input shaft, and the disc's OD is 10" or 10.5"...

I would guess that the major differences in the discs would be dependent one what kind of pressure plate you have: Long or diaphragm...

Yes there are some really big differences in flywheels and clutch disc that are made today . Now the worst you did was chip a tooth on the starter ring you can get a new ring and have it welded in . If you replace the flywheel with a stock replacement it will have MADE IN CHINA on the back of it ! If yours has FORD on it the use that one and either resurface the disc face and or replace the ring gear . If you are replace the clutch disc , pressure plate and throw out being , the MAKE SURE YOUR RESURFACE THE FLYWHEEL !!!!!!
If the engine is stock , then stock replacement parts will work just fine . If you have up grade the am and so one then get a better clutch set up than stock . A stage 2 ZOOM will serve you very well !
    Just my opinion !

Another option is look in your yellow pages under clutches and find a rebuilder and get the disc redone in Kevlar it will fade less and decrease pressure plate wear a bunch.

The Flywheel isnt damaged i just dropped the Clutch disc and it screwed up some of the fiber on it. The Flywheel looks ok except for some buildup from the clutch disc and oil that must have got in between and burned. I am first going to try and clean it off with some scotch brite and see if it comes off if not I'm going to try and find a place that resurfaces them. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it

Get it resurfaced or when you stick that new clutch in you will understand why I said to do it the first time you drive it ! If it was the edges on the clutch disk , just take some sand paper and clean them up .
Most any machine shop that does brake rotors and drums will do the flywheel resurface for you !

Well when I went offshore I asked my dad to take my Clutch disc down to NAPA and get another one for me... which he did but they said they couldnt sell just the clutch disc you have to buy the pressure plate also so he bought both...the only thing is the pressure plate doesnt look like the one i had originally...this one has alot of little fingers coming out around the hole in the middle and my old one only has 3 around it...if anyone knows what im talking about will this new one work? or do i need to go find a pressure plate that looks like the old one? it says it fits a 65 falcon with 289 and a 4 speed which is what I have. thanks

The stock clutch cover is called a long type. The new one is diaphram type. If the bolt holesline up, it should work OK and it may reduce the pedal effort at high RPMs. The one pictured doesnt look bad, may we see a picture of the other side please?

Thanks, I will get a pic up of the other side tomorrow. The pressure place wasnt bad just the clutch disk but when my father bought it they told him he cant buy just the clutch disc by itself it has to come as a pair. It just looks so different I didnt know if I could use it, I am trying to find a place to re-surface my flywheel now and with it being the holiday i will probably have to wait til tuesday to get that done. thanks for the info
