I have several sets and I wanted to know are they good for anything other than selling to some die hard restorer? Thanks...
Measure them before doing anything. These things are rolled steel, and are almost worthless once they wear much because they are too thin to take much turning. If you have a miracle find thick one, it's worth something to a restorer who doesn't want repro iron drums on his car. Otherwise, they are just core hubs for someone putting on repro drums. One other exception category: original cast iron ones, used in late '31, have big ventilation holes in the front ones like 1932 drums. These too are desirable pieces for restorers as they are superior to the steel ones.
Weld a chunk of pipe to them, stick a plate on the top, mount your extra buffer. Roll it into the corner next to that 60 over 400 SBC with the crank & mains missing when you don't need it.
Thanks for the suggestions and I will check the tolerences. I knew these things were go for something, I will soon have a thriving lamp business.
hey SmokinJoe that is a great idea. I have some 41 3/4 ton drums that I have been kicking around my garage because I didn't want to throw them out but didn't know what to do with em. They would make awesome bases for stands. thanks!
