Looking to sell my engine and trans put of the gmc 100 i just bought, its a 1955 with the upgraded 316 v8 and the 4 spd hydra matic transmission... I already have a 350 and trans to put in the truck so im trying to gauge how much the old engine and trans are worth ballpark so i can decide what to do with them
I guess the question more should be is, what is the range in which it could be worth, id say its in very strong condition and runs and shifts very nicely
I'm sure there is someone that needs it but will he be local enough to come get it? I had to give away my very nice running 6 cyl Ford engine. The rather rare truck hydamatic may cause someone to drive some distance to get it but I would not expect a long line of buyers. I drove to Ohio to get my Studebaker engine but it was only 200 bucks for a runner. Anything more and it would still be in in Ohio.
Always looking for a good hydramatic, and with a Pontiac engine, even better, but the distance does not warrant going out to LA. I don't have room for another engine/trans at this time. My guess would be 2-3bills for a price.
Cool thanks guys, the po claimed people would pay 3k for the trans, and i looked at him and was like hmm I doubt it, glad I was the one still on my high horse
I sold a '54 Pontiac straight 8 and good hydromatic for $50 a few years ago, but I wasn't trying really hard. As with anything else, try eBay and what you get is what you get, but I wouldn't expect more than a couple hundred UNLESS it is really specific to the GMC truck in which case if you're really lucky you'll get two guys restoring the same model truck who bid war trying to get it.
If it runs and goes, why are you getting rid of it in the first place? If you can't get $500 for it something's wrong, but it will sell better if you leave it in and people can see it run and move.
I am going to leave it in until somebody wants to buy it, my only reason for selling is I have a complete 350 ready to go in with trans etc.
It doesnt, at this point im keeping it, just curious if there was like a super high demand for them among gmc guys, the guy i bought it from seemed to think there was, i just feel like the engine and trans would be better served for someone who needs/wants it versus in my storage shed
So no reason, then? If you don't abuse it that 316 and Hydro will last a long time and the 4-speed hydro is much more pleasant to drive with than a 3-speed TH350 is.
Ok, thanks for the info, maybe ill give it a good tune up and see how it runs, maybe find a new project for the engine and trans
