Folks Of Interest Is there a problem with the Market Place?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by raprap, May 11, 2017.

  1. Rap, Ditch the pipes put Pencil tips on them put the bumpers back on, 46 to 48 Chevy bumpers, with gravel pans, fill the tail lights in put tail lights in the bumper guards, lower it in the back about 4 in. and call it a custom it'll sell much better then. JW

John, unfortunately, the bumpers are gone, not going to do any body work. Do you have any short whitewall tires with wheels I can use?

  5. There's an ass for every seat.... I think the armchairs are chiming in a lil much..... NOT your ride, and NOT your sale. You don't want to buy it anyway, so STFU, and let the man be. Someone will be interested- just not you. Not everyone has the same taste........

Your right, I'm a Ford guy, but here is a more saleable view IMO. Bob[IMG]

  7. On this forum, the popular vote will be to make the changes that people have mentioned above (making it a more traditional style). That is great for this/our crowd, but not all potential buyers.
A true car guy or girl will recognize it as a nice solid car, and will overlook the obvious modifications (that they may find not to their liking), and incorporate their own.
I'm thinking it's more of a price issue.
The idea of "making it your own" is what HotRods, Kustoms , are all about.
Nice car, good luck with the sale (your getting good exposure, from this thread).

Your question is a very good one to ask.
This is just my opinion but I think peoples interests are changing not just for the car market and people selling parts but for what they want to do with their spare time in general.

I see this at car shows, drag races, and many of forms of sports right now there just appears to be a lot less interest in things I have loved my whole life.
Because I sell decals from speed shops, drag strips and circle tracks I can tell I see the changes every time I look at my control panel for my website. Each day when I look at the list of items I sell I can tell you just what is selling and what is sitting on the shelf.

Decals that used to be very popular like Lions Drag Strip are not selling the same way they did just a few years ago. I have a few hundred old drag strips and right now none of them are big sellers.

I have a friend who has a very large mail order website selling similar time period items as mine and when we talk he is seeing the exact same think.
Now old speed shops and performance companies are a different thing and are still selling well.

I get calls from younger people asking me where Lions Drag Strip was located or what state it was in and that tells a lot about the person I am talking with on the phone.

I really see things changing a great deal over the next five to ten years with everything automotive related.

Just think about how many speed shops and machine shops used to be in business before the day's of Jeg's and Summit and crate engines.

Yes sir the times are changing and that's just the way it is.

TheMoose was kind enough to do a bit of photoshop work to the car to show what most of us are hinting at.

I am just an old man and have no great Ideas on the world at large. I read a lot about " can't build it for that " " you get what you pay for" and other cutesy sayings. In my opinion they do nothing to make the sale any more likely or for a bigger number. I actually like the car but the same things that everyone else gets bothered with also bother me. Anytime I buy anything I ask myself if I can sell it someday and for how much. I am lucky that I seldom lose money on my Hot Rods but then again I have walked away from some cars that I adored because of price.
My asinine rambling aside I can see the car changed to where I would like it ,the problem is I can not see that car with that price. And I can not even consider a car that I can't sell for half that in two or three years. My advice would be to sell it for whatever it will bring if you have the desire to do another one. If not just keep useing it and maybe change a few things along the way. Best of luck ,Just My Opinion.

As others have said it is a solid coupe...but my first impression is the car is fighting itself. The front screams hot rod and the rear is trying to say custom minus the cans and tall tires. Just a couple of details holding it back....the moose nailed it with his photo shop rendering.

I buy/restore/sell vintage drums (instruments) and the market is very slow right now...just a sign of the time.... I guess.

    Good luck on the sale!

Nice rendition of what it could be, Moose. I think you nailed it. Someone out there just got the finished photo of what they could turn this into with their unique touch.

Moose did a request from me. I liked so much I did it. Granted I did not need as much change as you but he sure was right.

  16. ...does your car have wider rear fenders than stock, or do they just appear so with the skirts?

They are 2" wider than stock

  18. The elephant in the room that everyone is carefully ignoring is the engine/trans.... Yes, the visual cues are more than a little confused, but the inline six/manual trans choice further narrows the field of possible buyers. This isn't a mainstream choice, particularly at your price level. Yes, I understand that you probably have more money in it than what a generic 350/350 combo would have cost, but 'traditional' six cylinder enthusiasts are a fairly small subset among rodders. And they tend to gravitate towards very traditional cars, which again, your car isn't, quite.

That's why they call you "Crazy Steve"! Inline sixes are definitely Old School. How many full loaded six cylinders have you seen? Check out www.inliners.org. There's over 5,000 members.

I find that it is a buyers market right now. I see decent cars for sale cheap on Craigslist all the time. And most are giving away basket cases. Not saying yours is a basket case.

I want to thank all the HAMB members who have voiced their thoughts and opinions about helping me sell my Chevy. I really have appreciated it and all the positive and negative comments. Hey, I'm not offended or discouraged.
Most people basically said change a couple of things or wait for the right person, they are out there.
I did find the right person and the Chevy has been sold. I know that the next owner is as excited as I was when I finished the car. He sees all the custom work, style and engineering that went into this always driven car.
I hope he enjoys the car as much as I had building and driving it.
    On to the next adventure!

  27. Good news!

I had an ot 69 lincolin that was gold with gold leather ( original)
Took almost a year to sell it as it was not black on black
Waited and found the guy like me who appreciated the “ weird factor” of the colour.

    So what’s next ?!

Next! I enjoyed this dissection of why a car was taking a while to sell, anyone else have a car to sell?
