My friend found this car and it is for sale. We know about what it is worth as a restoration project. My question is.....would a hot rodder buy it to build? Or is it to far removed from the mainstream popularity?

How do you deal with the front springs and such? How do you lower a car like that? Just change it all to a Ford style front end?

definately, it's a great way to stand out in a sea of "popular" rods.

I like it. I think an OHC 6 dressed up would look pretty cool. A good stance with GM artillery wheel and you'd have yourself a real unique rod.

If anything I would find an Oakland v-8, already in use since 1930, Pontiac used it in 32" only after they merged. Damn I wish I could find something like that. Than I would have 3 decades of Pontiacs.

The front looks the same as early chevys they sell axle for them...
i would not hesitate to build that.

Keep the factory front end styling by putting a new dropped tube axle with updated brakes. Less expensive, less work, and keeps the character of the car I think.

hell ya, put on a model a frame with 40, frount and rear. 35 wires... oo ya..

  16. Thanks Fiddy. Here's my 31 Pontiac five window coupe. I'm running the parallel front springs. Low enough for you? Scrub line clears too.

You sure have a lot more to start with than I did.

tough to see the axle, I have a 40 chevy drop axle with brakes that looks like it would fit nicely!
I would find it hard not to hot rod that thing! if he buys it you guys have to find a way to incorporate the fender lights, those are too cool.

Kerry. I have always liked your car. The thing is....you are the only one I've ever seen that hot rodded one of these. Just wondered out loud how many others liked the idea.

  20. I should add I lowered the front by mounting the axle above the springs. This meant reworking the front crossmember.

seems to be the popular choice, but I really like seeing old parralel leaf cars stay that way. drop the stock I beam. upgrade the brakes. modify or replace one or more of the leaves.

    I'd like that car with a Pontiac OHC 6 and a 4 speed.... mebbe a Ram Air V 400.

Man, I'd love to build that, straight 6, or even 8 would be sweet. Different is good in my book (the wood might suck though).

  23. It's not about what I like or what anybody else likes. What to YOU like??? Build it for yourself, not others.

If other folks like my coupe, great. If they don't they can go piss up a rope, I don't care. I built her for me. :)

That all said, you have a GREAT start there! How's the wood?

Well I admit it I know next to squat about anything of that vintage, but wouldn´t any Ford of pre-35(???) -vintage have the same amount of wood framing to deal with as these GM-cars. I keeping hearing that as the reason why the early´30s Chevys were never popular as Hot Rods like the Fords were. Which of course puts the popularity of the Model A´s into a somewhat peculiar light...

  25. Why not? The last Rhinebeck I went to a guy had a complete coupe body, chopped with molded fenders, that wasn't in too bad of shape for $800. The only thing I didn't care for was the wood was also chopped, and you can't really weld that back together, but the tin was decent particularly for an east coast car. Although it could have easily been loaded with bondo under the primer, too - at the time I didn't have $800 to blow on it, so I didn't look it over too close.

Bring it down Paul, I'll Hot Rod it! Good looking coupe!

  27. Would definitely be tiring explaining its a Pontiac to people who say nice Model A, or questions about the parallel leaf springs in the front. Otherwise that is a kickass platform to start a nice ride from.-Weeks

  28. I've already got it started in my head.
That would make a geat projet depending on the $ for it .
Looks like most of it is there and that cant be a bad place to start from.

Hell, I'd rod the shit out of that thing and would loudly proclaim it was a Pontiac... might even make some screaming squa pinup art to go on the cowl. Sexy and a LOT more to work with than a lot of us got.
